We didn't make 5m on Godfrey.

Godfrey cost 22m, we lost 11m on the deal.
Holgate cost 2m, we lost 2m on the deal.

I know it's cool to consider PSR as profit, but when a business constantly loses money, it ends up getting points deductions.

The answer is somewhere in the middle. Certainly he provided value while he was here, not as much as we'd all like but it can't be a straight buy for X sell for Y calculation.

Thats a different discussion and 1 I could make regarding Andre Gomes for example.

Take Moise Keane for example, that will remain a mystery how we ever made actual money on that deal.

Or I could make for Coleman, 60k lost...

At any rate, that we got anything for him is a blessing. It was a bad purchase. The guy was never good enough to be a CB at Everton. To his credit, kept his head down and helped the squad in other areas, but as I said above, emblematic of our issues.

Agreed, not his fault he ended up at a level he wasnt suited.

On par with holgate?

Don't see many Italian teams (on the up) beating down our doors to capture a talent that "at one point" in a few games "looked half decent"....

Will we make 5m profit on holgate? Despite his formidable heading ability and lack of pace.

Holgate has been awful, loaned out, and on a high wage. No one wants him. The same with Keane.

Godfrey is a year younger, has speed, and covers 3 positions. He'd had suitors.

But for Everton both of them had a moment early in their career and faded quickly where they went from first choice...to 3rd and 4th.

We did. It's on the balance sheet (or will be) as per the rules as a football business. We made a profit. Fact.

Being Cool. No idea. Please enlighten me.

Regardless. Purely as a player. Godfrey gave us more in his time and for the business.

You know the point I was making.

As a business deal we lost money.
In the made up world of PSR, we made a profit.

Wasn't sure tbh. But. Tis true.

Unfortunately "the made up world" is the one that Everton live in, and more importantly, the one that decides our future. Therefore, our (current) reality. Right or wrong.

PSR is a farce and only the real stupid clubs fail it.

This Godfrey deal and the many others before it only highlight it.

Total incompetence.

Another factor is you don’t really buy a player, you rent their registration for a set number of years, that registration can wax and wain but in the meantime you get the value of the player services, which was the intention all along.

It depends on the lenses you look at it through.

If DCL leaves on a free next season we loose money, but was it a bad deal given his 8 years of service. Sure we loose cash flow but his registration was of worth, given his service.

PSR is indeed a farce... The unexpected "competence" of this "profit" highlights it.

Holgate's contract extension is real incompetence.

Who'd have thunk it.

That assumes you received the value equal to the depreciation and expenses, which I’m not sure the club did.

When you buy an asset for that money at age 22, you expect it to gain value, not lose, four years later.

Then opportunity costs, costs of capital, there was no profit.

One of the best analysis I’ve seen on here. Bravo.
