Only he couldnt because someone working in background was calling the shots, even Brands hinted at this when he was confronted, a few days before he went, more then likely Kia.
Lucas wanted out, everyone knew Rafael was on very thin ice, if Lucas had even the slightest desire to stay he could of hung on for a week, but no.
Either way he hasn't been missed and his replacement already looks better.

Completely false.

Brands was out. Benitez had control. Brands didn't want to work with Benitez and walked when he was brought into the firing line. All the transfers in the summer and January were by Bentiez. He stopped transfers on targets and hand picked his own.

Bentiez started a feud with Digne and just like Brands he didn't want to work with him, so Digne left at the first opportunity. Don't blame him.

Benitez spent that fee. And poorly.

Who did he spend the fee poorly on? Put a name on it

Mykolenko and Patterson.

They're purchases based on a well run club to ease them in and bring them into the first team. Not in a relegation battle. Always said this.

Has nothing to do with their ability, everything to do with the situation. If hes sacrifices our best creative players for funds, he needed to use it better. Instead he complains as usual.

Benitez signed 7 players and didn't bring in 1 central midfielder. Not one. And that's based on him knowing he had Davies out, Gomes and Delph injury prone, and for the most part was going to rely on Allan and Doucoure all season.

The only think he did positive was buy Gray on the cheap. Everything else was a disastrous and of his making.

Soon as you said Mykolenko i knew the post was going to be comedy, he has been good, better then Lucas in fact and isnt giving away stupid free kicks on the edge of the box.
Aside from that some of the things you say might be losely right but they are on the DOF, not Benitez and sacrificing players for funds is because of the mess made in previous seasons.
"The only think he did positive was buy Gray on the cheap." this is true but you then fail to follow it up saying how Townsend was a good buy based on wha we had to spend in the summer, and did make a good contribution early in the season, and we have missed him. You also forget to mention rondon who is going to be very important for us in these final few games and has been a big miss on the field while sitting on the bench watching DCL.
The only signing he made that was a waste of time was Patterson, one miss out of 7 isnt bad on our budget

You've missed the point. You're talking about the lads ability which is a different argument. Its pulling up the tactical geniuses whinge about "lack of funds"

He spent £30mill on Patterson and Mykolenko. That's a fact. So what little funds he had he spent on inexperienced defenders when he could've used them with far more intelligence as mentioned before...loan an experienced left back, buy a midifielder, bolster areas in dire need to survive a season.

He didn't. Yet "I had no money".

For Rondon and Townsend..squad fillers you can't rely on. And that's what happened.

Still don't understand his logic in selling Digne and brining in Mykolenko as if that would improve things.

Because we was in the red and breaching FFP. He was one of only a handful of sellable commodities.

Funny thing is Villa fans are saying we screwed them on that deal as Digne has been distinctly average.

Nothing to do with the quality of the player, it's how the money was spent.

If you're gonna raise funds via a player sale, you spend the money wisely.

We did, total waste of money for them
