I won't lie, a part of me feels a sense of schadenfreude here. Appointing Benitez in the first place, and not sacking him after the Watford game or the derby, were acts of absolute stupidity, that deserve to be rewarded with the ultimate punishment, but of course i obviously hope and don't want that to happen.

Let's say he was sacked after the Liverpool game.

Big Dunc takes over for the Arsenal game and we lose. That's 3 points lost that we actually won.

Lampard takes over, that Chelsea draw becomes a loss.

The same transfer window happens.

Right now we would be sat with 8 points to make up. Looking at Lampards results, I don't see the results going any different.

The Benitez fans would be saying he never had a transfer window and the arguement would be even worse in his favour.

And guess what may have also happened in your "imaginary game of results"

We draw to Arsenal, we lose to Chelsea then we beat Brighton at home, Norwich away and beat Villa at home.

Suddenly we are better off.

My lad is 13 and talks more sense than you.

No way would Big Dunc have got the draw at Arsenal. We were lucky to come away with 3 points last time. I don't think we beat Brighton or Villa. Norwich at that time had a bit of a resurgence and were still fighting.

It's nice to look back and think a change a few games earlier would have made a difference, but I don't they would.

The same players would still have gone and the same players would have come in.

Ah right so this is the game where you make crap up about results but anyone else who says your crap results are a load of crap is talking a load of crap because their crap doesn't match your crap.

Please do share your imaginary final 6 games results but to make it completely crap, make sure you put the results Benitez would have got us as well.

Benitez isn't here dude. Who knows where we would be now if he was.

All I'm saying is, making a change a few games earlier probably wouldn't have made a difference. Lampard has been abysmal and him being in charge earlier would have given us the same results that we actually got.

We changed him at the right time, half the delay was probably the club knowing nobody decent would want to take on that situation and our squad. I'll be honest I didn't even think Frank would come and he isn't even a quality name in management, that's how much of a mess we are.
As it turned out the fear that we might change and get worse has turned out to be true bit it was inevitable.
If Rafael had turned up for the Villa game it would of been horrible, ok we lost the game but at least the fans didn't kick off.

The thing is Lampard was interviewed by Palace, didn't get the job, was interviewed by Watford and the rumour was that he had a terrible interview. Norwich passed on him as they said he wasn't good enough.

With us, I think we took him on because there was no one else

100% it was him or Dunc if he even wanted it, Rooney didn't.
When your short list is one manager and some loose links to overseas managers who were even more scary it's not looking good.

I beg your pardon?
