This is a profession where there is no time to have mental health issues. Yet alone publicly disclose it.

Appalling comment.

How will mental health awareness increase, or how will people overcome those obstacles, unless they talk about it?

Some of the most iconic players to play in this league have disclosed their mental health issues publicly, so it's just absurd to act as though it is a sign of weakness.

Both beat me to it.

Have a go at his height, his final ball, his work rate, but I suggest folk having a pop down to a players mental health is bang out of order.

I don’t agree I’m having a pop at his mental health. I’m merely pointing out he operates in a high pressure environment unlike anything you or I have ever dealt with, it’s unforgivable and ruthless.

Most of the players who don’t make it when they’re younger, it’s down to mentality alone.

Being on the pitch losing 7-1 and being embarrassed, I couldn’t imagine what a Peter Reid would do to his own team yet alone opposition. This game should of been a massive red flag alone to Brands.

I don’t want to make light of his mental health, but this is a profession where there is no time to have mental health issues. Yet alone publicly disclose it.

Wise up

He's not a player I particularly rate, but this post is a load of rubbish.

There's a massive difference between having a poor attitude on a football pitch and mental health issues. You can have the best possible effort, determination and courage on the pitch but have genuine health issues. They are completely unrelated.

I didn’t suggest it makes them weak. It’s my personal opinion that we shouldn’t give players a free pass because they’ve self diagnosed a mental health issue.

Yet you’ll be first to wonder why are players get smashed 4-0 by the reds and be scratching your head why clubs like Seville can buy a whole new team, and continue to win big trophies.

Mentality and mental health is completely different mate.

he’s already a professional footballer. He can handle pressure. But that’s not to say that there won’t be times that people don’t struggle from a mental health perspective.

And regarding talking about mental health problems openly in high pressure jobs, would you prefer it if you pilot flying you to a job or a surgeon working on you talked about their issues or just kept them hidden.

everyone is susceptible to mental health issues irrespective of whether they have the right temperament or not.

This 100%.

You're re-wording things now. Your words were that "This is a profession where there is no time to have mental health issues".

Our fans have complained a lot about guys with weak mentalities, and weak personalities, yet when I suggest we shouldn’t allow someone to stay with mental health issue. The knives are out for me, haha couldn’t make it up.

You are conflating mental health and mentality. They are not the same thing.

They’re interlinked, i didn’t mean to be offensive, but in your example of a surgeon or pilot in that situation I’d rather they both left the profession.
Same with Bernard, it’s not a personal attack against him.

You can very much have empathy with him as a person, but from a football perspective I see guys with mental health issues. Lennon, Gomes, Keane, and now Bernard coming out publicly saying they’ve had issues is VERY alarming. It’s a partly a reason why we’re pretty rubbish.
You used the word woke to describe someone who had empathy for him. You also made a completely fatuous war reference. You were basically suggesting he should ‘man up’ as far as I could see.
