Surprised that he wasn't allowed to leave, unless they weren't willing to cover all of his wages.

Weirdly hes one of if not our highest earners on wages. But is actually cheap to keep around as costs nothing in amortisation.

Only DCL, Davies and Holgate cost us less annually and they all came through here.

I'm glad we didn't let Bernard go. Bottom line, we couldn't let BOTH Theo and Bernard leave this window. We need some level of squad depth. We can't expect DCL/Richy/James to continue to run out there every 3 days for 4 months.

Carlo decided he'd rather keep Bernard over Theo, fine by me.
We will be playing just once a week now till the end of December. I can’t see him getting many minutes unless we have injuries

They wanted to buy him so obviously would have paid his wages in full
Maybe reduced wages but they would have paid in full
I’d expect, given the 7m fee, they were willing.

Sorry, I now just assume that any interest in an Everton player is for a loan, with the other side struggling to keep a straight face as they tell Brands that maybe there'll be a bid at the end of it. Although, @mill, it isn't unheard of for a club to continue subsidising a player's wages even after a permanent transfer. I believe that both Everton and Man United were contributing towards Rooney's ale money at DC.

I'm sure that Brands will have some sort of algorithm for determining a player's value, but it does seem strange that this wasn't seen as an opportunity to get shut of a massive earner, especially when he arrived on a free. I know that £7m doesn't seem much now, but the vast majority of foreign clubs are operating on revenues that are minuscule in comparison to their Premier League counterparts, and no one in this league is likely to buy him.

I actually don't mind Bernard, but the fact is that he barely ever plays.

It does look as if Bernard will be gone in January and if fit, Tosun as well.

I certainly think CA has somebody in mind for January and again it may come back to Milik who can sign a pre contract on Jan 1st and probably could be bought for small money at that time.

I appreciate your point about subsidised wages but I was making the point that 7m was a very low fee given the player and his experience. If we were to subsidise his wages I would have though the fee to be higher.

if his wages werent so high you’d be talking about a 15m valued player I reckon in today’s market.

I find it funny that he was reputedly the highest earner on 200,000 a week last year but now Theo has gone as the highest earner on 85,000 ,he is back as the top earner ! No consideration to the others who are the top earner Siggy and Yerry ,oh and Richy and Gomes and Pickford and lets not forget who must be the highest Hamez or is it Allan.

And we will pay him 12mil in wages for his last 2 seasons. Anyone on that type of money, should be the first name off the bench and making a big contribution. Or even pushing the front 3 for one of their places

It's a tough one to judge, but then Everton obviously believe that they could or should be able to get a better deal.

Unless it's another Premier Club with money to risk, I can't see there being too much interest in a 28-year-old who hasn't really done anything outside of Brazil and Ukraine.
