Also, I think it should set the tone of the song. It's the reason I posted 'heard it through the grapevine' that slow deep bassy sound is so ominous. The bass/piano like a heart beat and the tambourine is frantic. It's like a man angry trying to control himself.
It's the slow bassy build up then the raspy reaching vocal. SublimeI feel exactly the same; no idea if this example checks in the UK, but if you live in a part of the US that gets real, actual thunderstorms, there's a presence or feeling that can make your hair stand on end with expectation (not always good) just knowing what's about to happen. Some songs have that soft lead out foreshadowing something big coming in and I like that.
