Best Pubs in Merseyside

Didn't like the Cobden - Had a strange smell on the two occasions I went. Seen Simon O'Brien in there once had a gab about the blues to him. He used to live across the road, dunno whether he still does. Was seein' some right weird type (For about a fortnight) what lived above/below the hairdressers across the road from the one a bit further up - can't remember the name of it now, but it was the better of the two I thought.

Back to town. The Swan on Wood St used to have a great selection on the jukey - Served Hoegaarden on tap too! ;) Bit of a bikeys/rockers alehouse in the evenings, but never had any problems there.

The one further up was called - The County Court. It was the best pub in Woolton, managed to be a proper boozer, without being up its own arse. Great well kept ale, legendary stay behinds and it's now being turned into flats. Absolute tragedy, but when the Cobden was bought as a free hold, the licensee of the County Court couldn't compete with the cheap ale in the Cobden.

Merseyside has some magnificent pubs for lots of reasons :

The Augustus John, in the grounds of the Uni - real cider and ale.

The Belverdere , off Catherine St, the whisky selection and front beer garden on the cobbled area outside.

The little Grapes, Roscoe St, the music and ale.

The Roscoe Head, Roscoe St, just for being a great pub.

The Old Post Office, off Dale St, a great old pub for daytime drinking .

The Masonic in Garston, proof that with a good owner and ale, a little corner pub can thrive again.

The Gardeners Arms in Woolton, still has a proper old skool bar and great ale.

Farmers Arms in Frankby - lovely pub, with a great beer garden for the kids to play in.

The Wheatsheaf in Raby - pub and food heaven.

And many many more

Great shouts but the AJ is a dive, despite me being a regular. Used to see John Bailey in there daily.
