Best Pubs in Merseyside

Depends what you're after doesn't it.

They're both cheap and cheerful and noticeably cheaper than everywhere else in town, I know that attracts some special types but if you just want a quiet pint and you're feeling the pinch, The Blob is fine.

I like the Excelsior because of the actual bar itself.
If I was that skint I just wouldn't drink rather than save a quid and having to go the blob shop.

The Excelsior is a great pub though.

Brookhouse at the corner of Smithdown and Greenbank.

Like the layout, it's in a chain now but it's a big old style pub.

£1.25/pint after 7 on a Thursday too!

See this is what happens when you don't specify Liverpool.

Anyway, ship and mitre, Peter kavanaghs, Caledonia etc all decent boozers in town.

By ours the new Glebe is a decent boozer with good ale (Estrella and San Miguel on tap) and the black horse is boss in summer with the new telly and the big garden.
Estrella and San Miguel are nothing less than mop water mate

It was ruined when they changed it from a big pub with a bar and a lounge. It was one of the biggest blue pubs in the city as well. I watched the Cup winners cup final in there and it was like being at the match. Whole pub decked out in flags, banners and scarves .

The one further up was called - The County Court. It was the best pub in Woolton, managed to be a proper boozer, without being up its own arse. Great well kept ale, legendary stay behinds and it's now being turned into flats. Absolute tragedy, but when the Cobden was bought as a free hold, the licensee of the County Court couldn't compete with the cheap ale in the Cobden.
Used to go the races with the county court can't believe it's gone

The current owners of the Cobden are the previous owners of the County Court during it's heyday. When they left it deteriorated quite swiftly!

Off the top of my head I would currently go for Pi, The Ship, The Eddie, The Globe, Ye Cracke, Belv, Baltic Fleet, Lion Tavern and The Turks Head.

But then there's the Pen Factory, Grapes (Knight Street... the other doesn't exist to me), Roscoe Head, Rigby's and many others.

The Edinburgh in Wavertree.
Great pub for the atmosphere. Had some fantastic laughs of the years in there!

Was once a very good pub, especially when they had their own micro-brewery. Now it's awash with students and the great unwashed.

Went in there about ten years ago with friends on a Tuesday evening. £1 a pint that tasted like piss and idiots trying to act hard.
