Confirmed Signing Beto

If we sign him I've no doubt he'll be a huge improvement over Maupay and probably even DCL in all honesty - even when he's fit.

But the thing that's really concerning to me is the club once again spending huge money on somebody relatively unheard of and somebody who is not even an international player.

Over £30m on somebody with a modest goal return seems incredibly excessive, but hey, it's not my money so as long as we don't fall foul of any rules and given it seems nobody else wants to join us, he'll more than do.

It's just incredibly jarring to see the likes of Brighton, Forest and others going out there and picking up players for €8-12m who you just know will probably perform better over the season.

If we have £30m, why can't we go and get four of these type of players Brighton seem to constantly find? If two of them turn out to be a success then it will have paid off big time. But again, I understand the club somehow isn't capable of doing that.
But it's not 'over £30m'. As reported, it's £25m with add-ons that may take it towards £30m.

Exaggeration to sensationalise a poor point. We don't have the imperative to go out and buy 3 or 4 'maybes' for the future. We need someone who can hit the ground running and help the team immediately. We're in a completely different situation to Brighton.

But your point about not signing maybes... this is a £30m striker that hasn't been deemed good enough for his national side. He clearly wasn't our first choice either.

I am definitely not opposed to us signing him, quite the contrary in fact, but if we had a proper scouting network like other teams then we wouldn't be taking £30m gambles, like this is.

I can't imagine a good scouting network costing tens of millions to set up, so I've no idea why we can't produce the type of results from our signings that the likes of Brighton or Palace do.

That all said, if there is £30m available, and all we bring in now is Beto, we've been left dismally short on the wing, at centre half and in creativity in midfield. I think the money could and should have been spent wiser, but we all know that Everton operate at an amateur level in terms of scouting and sealing deals.

Seems it's Beto or "we couldn't get any deals over the line", so that'll have to do, and it will probably keep us up.

A deal structure will be easier to sort with a foreign side than an English one so I’d imagine we’d settle midway at around €32/33

The bigger issue is getting him over here for a medical and having him registered to play at Doncaster on Wednesday otherwise his likely debut would be at Sheffield United next Saturday
