2024/25 Beto

Anyone with eyes can see that Beto is an awful footballer who probably should be playing Portuguese 2nd Division football.

We have seen enough of him by now to know what he's capable of, as have the managers who don't pick him unless they are out of options.

DCL (as bad as his goal scoring record has been in recent times) makes the team behind him function better than our other attacking options.

I'd have liked to have seen what Broja was capable of when fully fit, but man has legs made of poppadoms.

….which suggests we don’t watch targets.

To be fair to him, having been to a mid table Portuguese first division match, he would be absolutely fine there as well. As it was turbo garbage.

Basically this.

It just seems to be people think DCLs poor (albeit much better than Betos) goal return makes Beto a good player. It doesn't.

In terms of his minutes played in the PL over the last 2 seasons, he's played the equivalent of about 14 full matches.

But nobody plays 90 minutes now. It doesn't factor in stoppages which add a lot of time on too and he's playing during periods of the game where it's more open and more goals are scored.

His record is absolutely woeful.

The guy is not a target man, he doesn't suit the role and can't do the things Dom can, he needs balls played in behind so he can run off the shoulder, he has pace and isn't a bad finisher but play him back to goal and he looks worse than he is.

Is he the answer, definitely not but give the boy a chance and play to his strengths at least.

But if your level is lower leagues, how do you end up in the Premier League? Not saying that’s wrong, just curious.
It depends what you mean by 'lower leagues'. As always, his level isn't lower leagues in the pyramid sense - he shouldn't be playing for Tranmere or whatever, that's just daft. He's not really suited to the PL in my opinion, it's too fast for him and he has neither the technical or physical attributes to thrive. He can play top level football elsewhere though, as he's proved in his career before coming here. In his case he's ended up here because we were a club looking for a striker with minimal outlay and we took a chance on him adapting to what we needed. It hasn't happened unfortunately and I can't see how it ever will, but talk of him being a Portuguese second division player is just silly - he'll probably go back to Italy where he did fine before and do fine again.

No it doesnt. You're just making that up lol. Nobody on this forum is saying he's a good player. But people are quite rightly pointing out his goals to game time ratio. You've just posted about oh he gets stoppage time to score aswell. Yeah thats right. He gets thrown on usually with 10/15 minutes left and look at some of his goals.
Newcastle. Came on 85th minute. Scored 96th
Bournemouth. Came on 79th minute. Scored 87th
Fulham. Came on 81st minute. Scored 94th
The evidence is right there poking you in the eye.
He's a crap footballer but id put hard earned money on him scoring more than 5 in a full season if he started every week.

100% - so drop Doucoure and play Lindstrom or Armstrong in his position.
