2024/25 Beto

If the old football adage is correct and you are only as good as your last game then he is OK. I don’t think he is a world beater by any stretch of the imagination but we are not going to get a world beater to play for us at the moment. I think none of us really know how effective he can be in the Premier League, he hasn’t been given the chance to prove himself, he has only had bit parts so far and they were in Sean Dyche’s system which didn’t assist goal scoring. I couldn’t argue with those posters who point out his shortcomings, his close control isn’t good, he doesn’t hold the ball up but against Leicester he took his goals well and his run on goal was a nailed on penalty. Two goals and drawing a penalty isn’t a bad days work. Are there better centre forwards out there who would do a better job, of course there are but that applies to nearly every player we have. It looks like if we can play a style of football which puts him through on goal he can score, if we want to play a centre forward who can hold up play and bring others into the game then he is clearly not for us. Today is a big day for him and for all of us.

Not sure if anyone’s said this earlier, but for both his goals, his first touch is getting his shot off.
He’s not a hold the ball up and bring people into play kind of player, but he is a willing scrapper. Just seems that the more you give him to do outside of the box, by the time he gets into the box he just goes to pieces.
Hopefully with Garner back we can get more of them through balls for him to run on to and try and finish on instinct.
I was watching the highlights (again) this evening and I hadn't realized it was also Garner who put the pass in for the Beto "penalty" incident. Very similar to the 3rd goal. So yes, I agree, hopefully Garner and Beto have some understanding.

If Beto stays fit until the end of the season then we should be fine.

However I'm not convinced that any of Beto , DCL or Broja are the answer if we aspire to become a top 6 team. Chermitti ? I haven't got a clue.

That's said if we can make that progress we will do it in incremental steps , hopefully the top 10 next season, then try to make top 6.

Obviously Beto stays now because he's our only fit striker and he gets a proper run of games to prove himself but I'd expect us to move him on in the summer and replace him and DCL with a far more accomplished striker.

Good finishes for him, fair play for slotting those.

The balls fed in behind won't work against most teams, but for the remainder of the season we just need production in spurts so we can pick up points. We shouldn't be worried about how they come or duplicating that display from match to match.
the fact that he has shown he can run in behind defences and slot will mean defences will play a little bit deeper against him, that will allow a little more room for the likes of Ndiaye and Garner to play. Small gains have knock on effects.

There are genuinely days where he cannot stand up straight. I get why people aren't going to champion him as the next Messi. But they go way overboard. Hell, there were a lot of games where I thought the same thing about Richy and he was a very good player for us. You have to imagine that Beto is adjusting to the pace of the league just like Lindstrom and everyone else. It isn't easy. But Beto needs to show improvement in those areas. He at least deserves a chance to show he can.
We don’t have much choice but to give him a chance. There’s no one else.

Love the lads heart and willingness to chase every ball or press the defence, it’s infectious and makes others around him chase and work harder.

His effort won the pen against Brighton, and he carried on like that on Saturday.

He's always played like it matters here - give me a player who isn’t the most talented but who cares and gives a shiz any day.

His first time finishing is more than decent to be honest, he’s will score goals if we give him the right service.

Love him to go on a proper goal scoring run now, his effort deserves it.

Imagine if they've actually practiced a move in training where a midfielder passes the ball through to a striker...

We don’t get top 10 with any of our current strikers, happy to let DCL and Beto go in the summer and give Chermiti a chance before season finishes and pre-season.
