2024/25 Beto

Beto does more in his token 8 minute run-outs each week than Calvert SundayLeague does in his guaranteed 80 mins every week, but it's pointless, because everyone knows Dyche will never ever ever play some foreign guy he's never heard of, didn't sign and has never kicked a ball in the toughest league in the world over a guy with 200+ games Prem experience and knows exactly what is expected.

Not suggesting Beto is the answer by any stretch (yet another player Kevin Fraudwell has spent years chasing that offers nothing), but you dont score 22 in 65 for Udinese by fluke. For all his heart, he's never been given the 20+ game runs DCL gets repeatedly with zero return. Credit to him for wanting to get on the pitch every week and giving it his all every minute; plenty of players would go the other way and down tools until the transfer window and go to a club you have a chance at.
Tuson had a great record before he joined us - it's harder in our team & the Prem ....

Yeah, like I say, I'm not saying he's the answer but I also think he's been very hard done by being tossed a few minutes here and there; getting spinters in his arse watching Dommy-Six-Goals do absolutely nothing every week but keep getting the nod.

I'd have had a transfer request in the second last season finished when it became 100% clear you've got no chance here (good luck dragging my arse off an exotic beach for pre-season training if you're not going to play me), but he didn't do that. He stuck at it and clearly plays like every single second matters. He might be rubbish, and I'm sure he'll be moved on soon enough, but you can't knock his attitude....... unlike some players here.

How soon before we start getting the calls to go two up top in games we're expecting to get hammered in? Pragmatic stale boring grind a point football or gung-ho let's have a go and get walloped?

Everyone saying he shouldn’t start because he’s not any good…What exactly do we have to lose? Certainly not like we’d be scoring any less. DCL is a myth. Just give him a run and if we score zero goals, it’s the same zero goals we’d have anyways.
Dyche plays his favourites. End of. He's proven this his entire career. Keane can be a calamity a season+ back and still be assured his place 14 games of 18. DCL can go 20 games without a goal and still be assured his place, every week.

It's not rocket science: Dyche simply doesn't -and almost never has- played players he's never heard of, didn't buy, didn't want, and have never kicked a ball in the "toughest league in the world". Ergo, you either tick the boxes or you don't. His Burnley sides were the epitomy of generally British-based, ready-made, senior players who could come straight in and do the job he wanted. DCL with his 200+ appearances in the Prem vs "the other bloke" isn't a contest.

How hard is it to play to his strengths?

Fella wants the balll in space to run on to. It's where he's most effective.

Players being tall and physical doesn't mean we have to blast it at his head.

It's clear he could he useful if we deploy a style which suits his game. But if not, he's an impact sub.
It is quite hard for us to be fair because we've nobody who can pass the ball, but i'm not sure it's quite right that that's what he's good at either. I don't think he's particularly good all round, I don't think he'd suddenly flourish in a different system because he just lacks some fairly basic things. He is lively though, you can't really fault his ability to get himself on the end of things and he's much more dangerous at the moment than DCL.

You're quite right.

Could have stopped after the first sentence. Were not very good.

By no means do i think he's a great footballer, but we're struggling for goals, and we seemingly just play a system which doesn't suit the strikers.

But far more useful than DCL at the moment.

I don't think DCL is happy with Dyche or the club & wants out - any no 9 has to win their own flick ons - with no service in a slow build up or a big hoof down the pitch It's painful to watch never mind play in that team .....

I'm sure DCL is far from happy at the situation in the team, but by the same token, he plays every week no matter what. A bang average striker at best can go 20 games without a goal and still be assured his starting place. Elite strikers find a way to make things happen, not miss the chances they do get, so I'm not sure Dom-the-undroppable has all that much to complain about tbh.

I've more sympathy with Beto who is quite clearly never going to get a run of games under Dyche, no matter what he does. Any other manager at any other team, and DCL should consider himself lucky to be on the bench never mind guaranteed first choice with his 6 or 7 goals a year.
