2024/25 Beto

We do need better and hopefully Moyes can identify someone.

But it still doesnt change that Beto has only played over 60 mins twice all season in the league. It's hard for a player to make an impact with the lack of minutes, especially a player who needs to work on some weaknesses.

The other side of it is that people feel embarrased by Beto's poor touch and clumsy play but will defend Calvert Lewin going 16 games without a goal which is unbelievably bad for a Premier League Striker. And the likes of Dyche and a section of our support will justify his inclusion from the start regularly just cause he holds up the ball well but provides little to no goal threat.

If we saw the DCL who played vs Spurs last week or Liverpool at Goodison last season on a regular basis then i'd have no issue with Beto never getting a run of games.
And that's been the catch 22 of the last year-n-half: do we drop DCL who often goes months without a goal and give Beto 10-15 full games to see what he can do, or do we stick with DCL because as bad as he is he's still a better option than the bloke who often looks like a Sunday league player every time he plays.

The real issue is how on earth we've ended up at a point where our choice is 'one of the worst strikers in the league or the other worst one' - and it'd be three if Maupay was still here.

Thats the issue. You cant compare them. As poor as DCL has been at times and his lack of goals he is miles better than Beto .. We simply need better options !

If Moyes is spending time deep watching video on Botofogo matches or attending Scunthorpe v Hooterville 11 hoping to identify targets then we're sunk. Almost every free minute he has needs to be spent organizing the current squad into a meaningful attack. He can get his summary videos and dossiers from the DoF / scouting.

Surely Moyes can -and should be- doing both? Coach the players for a few hours each day, then after training spend his time identifying one or two key players that are likely to be available and will improve the team how and where he wants.

There's not much time left in the transfer window so I'd like to think he's been investing a lot of hours into it since he got here, because leaving it entirely to the same people who brought us Beto and Maupay and Harrison and Danjuma and Broja to get it right is a gamble that could backfire big on Moyes.

Reading all day, DM does not rate Beto & wants rid of him ?

The last two games are about as good as you're going to see, IMO; and what I've seen, although better, needs new faces...especially with recent injuries.

Clearly Moyes sees DCL as first choice, Chermiti and Broja are both injured, so whether he rates him or not, he's going to be staying because there is no other striker available. Kid Chermiti has played a handful of career games and DCL could be out for months, so a striker should be priority No1 to supplement Beto as our only fit forward. In the summer, Beto can be moved on because he's nowhere near Prem standard. For now, needs must.

people diss DCL and would prefer beto playing even though he goes even longer without scoring, say hes never had a run of games ( even though hes been here 18 months and dom has been injured for about 3 quarters of that and beto was playing) and doesnt really add much to our attacking play and would rather wrestle the other players than try to play. Ive hoped beto came good but sadly he hasnt so far

Wrap the lad in cotton wool until matchdays...... unless he's deathly allergic to it.
Just you wait until Pickford breaks his leg against Leicester, we would get relegated then. Thelwell and the board are a disgrace for leaving us in this position, they've had 6 months to have us ready for the business end of the season and have failed miserably.

This season, Beto .29 goals/90 minutes > DCL .17/90.
Beto 305 minutes, DCL 1,582 minutes. Beto doing more with less quality time.

They’ve owned the club a month, mate.

How dare you use facts to dismiss a hyperbolic rant on here …. Do you even Everton at all ????????
I think what you're suggesting is that the new owners didn't need to / shouldn't have been working with the Director of Football during the closing stages of their acquisition of the football club.

Seems strange to me, as they clearly did a lot of work before officially acquiring Everton in terms of refinancing, etc., so why didn't they bother to ensure players were ready to come though the door? They themselves wouldn't have needed to actually do much work on that.

They're not employees paid by the hour that aren't expected to do work around their shifts. The state of the club directly impacts their bank balances.

The existing directors will have known what was needed and how much The Friedkin Group would be allowed to invest in playing staff, and Thelwell, if he's actually still working for the club, should have already identified which players were avaliable and open to joining us.

One of two things has obviously happened:

1. No work at all was done between the new owners and Thelwell prior to their takeover

2. There is next to no money available and it's our usual pick up whatever crap we can right at the end of the window

A highly risky strategy by the new owners.

In any case, thank God we got those two victories last week because it's not looking positive for the next days. We may yet get safe with a single Lidl Bargain Buy on Sunday.
