2024/25 Beto

Xg Nerds.
Calvert Lewin is much better. Strikers need to hold up the ball, win headers, run channels. Beto seems incapable of this. We struggle to get over the halfway line at the best of times.

It absolutely amazes me that people are defending DCL, who frankly, has been total garbage for the past two seasons and at the same time lambasting Beto
Last word, cos its not just about goals, DCL when he was interested did more than score goals.

But anyway, its all moot now, Beto is the only fit Striker at the club, so I hope and pray he hits 2 a game for the rest of the season.

I don’t think Beto’s any hidden gem striker. I just feel like it’s hard to say what he can offer when he’s sat most matches in a system where it was an isolated DCL and hoofball. Beto would be called in late in the match when we’re down or holding on to a 0-0 draw where attacking wasn’t the favoured approach. This is the big stage he’s wanted so let’s see what we’ve got when he’s the starter and featured striker.

Xg Nerds - aka inconvenient facts. That's why the offers have been flooding in for DCL.

Yep, I agree with you. At minute he's the striker that we've got, so we need to play to his strengths. If we can get somebody better in then great, but I think that won't be easy given the window.

To be fair, if the situation was the same as DCL I think he'd have loads of offers. He's made it pretty clear he's happy at Everton (not entirely sure why, given we've been so bad over the last few years).
Cousins uncles aunties nephew kinda thing, but I know somebody that spoke to a friend of Pickford a year or 2 ago, said that hes very, very happy at Everton and has no interest in leaving other than to spend his last year or 2 at Sunderland if possible.

Like I said earlier, I’ll reserve judgment on Beto when he’s had more playing time. A bunch of players who’ve been benched a lot this year or had limited playing time get the heat in here though they rarely hit the pitch. But since the encouragement to attack and style changes from Moyes, I’ve seen improvement with Patterson, Lindstrom, Beto, and Jake. Just need more time to see what Beto can offer.
