OK. Here's the most recent Gibson Les Pauls I've had and gigged with:Ooh yes please.
I post under 'Old Blue 2' here, but I'm 73 now, so don't give a toss if people know my real name or not. So here's what might be described as a hobby that I've done for the last 43 years (research and writing). Given the books I've written/co-written on the subject, I'm considered the world's No.1 expert on the Messerschmit Bf 110 by many. I hate the word 'expert' - I just conducted research and had the fruits of that research published in book form.Ooh yes please.
yeah I'm pretty OCD about stringing and all the other Gibbo style necks are fine (the SG has locking tuners) but the DC G string is troublesome. I'll try a nut change too, I've re filed the nut which made small improvementDon't get locking tuners. All they do is hold the string in the post by means of a small circular 'pole' which holds the string to the side of the inside of the tuning peg. They are useful in that you do not need to do several winds of the string around the post, and are very handy for changing strings quickly, but other than that, they do nothing for string stability. For string stability, what needs to be done is that one wind around the string post is all that is needed. The string needs to be 'locked' against itself on the post. Then the string needs to be stretched and played for a few seconds; taken back up to pitch; stretched again and taken back up to pitch, and repeat until there is no drop in pitch after you stretch it. I did that for decades gigging, and had no problems with my Gibsons live whatever the atmospheric conditions of the venue.
Hope this helps.
fabulous, I can never work out whether I prefer the plain or figured tops, they both look lovely. What is the colour on the first? A cherry burst?OK. Here's the most recent Gibson Les Pauls I've had and gigged with:

After I stopped gigging in September 2022, I sold the Standard, Junior and Deluxe, and now just have the Custom, and a 2002 Taylor 314 and a 1971 Eko Rio Bravo 12-string.
Cherry sunburst. But the other guitarist in the band called it a 'bloodburst'! He plays Banjocasters!fabulous, I can never work out whether I prefer the plain or figured tops, they both look lovely. What is the colour on the first? A cherry burst?
Does your watch not scratch the tops?

One thing I always did which was borne out of many hundreds of hours gigging, was that I tuned the 3rd and 6th strings down a few cents. On open chords there was always the ever so slight 'dissonance' one hears from a 12-string. Once you move up the neck with barre chords, the tuning is fine.yeah I'm pretty OCD about stringing and all the other Gibbo style necks are fine (the SG has locking tuners) but the DC G string is troublesome. I generally tune a touch flat open strings and bang on at the 5th fret, that tends to work for me with the pressure I use.One thing I always did which was borne out of many hundreds of hours gigging, was that I tuned the 3rd and 6th strings down a few cents. Now, read this, and realise that tuning a guitar cannot be done perfectly. Most I've posted it to have come back to me with a kind of 'Road to Damascus' viewpoint. It's well worth reading in full:
Rich 6Brand 6 should be the moniker.
