Had a bit of a soft spot for Man. City in the 90s. Started following when they got relegated from prem in 1996 and then went down to the then division two in 1998 so in my lifetime they were the first big club slumming it down in the lower leagues which has been a path pretty frequented since by so many.
They then had the double promotion to get back in premier league in 2000 and then got relegated again before establishing themselves as lower mid table club. They also moved to the new ground in 2003 so not like they got fresh investment or got good straight away just to getting a brand new stadium for very little.
All that's happened in last 15 years is well documented. I honestly didn't think it would happen due to who they shared the city with and thinking they wouldn't be able to sign enough world class footballers with Man. United on their doorstep but money of course talks and Ferguson stepping down a few years later was a masterstroke of timing as they'd have never dominated as much on his watch.
Ultimately all premier league bigwigs care is that Man. City are viewed bigger in America and Asia than Everton and that keeps the money rolling in from sponsors and broadcasters.
