What frustrates me a little is even with our history, our reputation really only ever appeared to be domestic. Other than 85 and a European Cup QF defeat to Panathanaikos in 71 (I think) we never really achieved much in Europe, so it’s not exactly like we have a heritage name that is internationally renowned that a potential investor may think that they want to revive.

There were plenty of bidders for Chelsea and Man Utd, so knowing there are interested investors you would hope maybe they would show an interest in us as there is potentially more upside despite our current struggles, but it looks like there is little interest certainly in terms of what is being reported. We have a similar profile to City when they were bought and more recently I guess Newcastle.

Still dog muck on the soles of our shoes.

A club that fell into the Third Division compared to the club with the most seasons in top flight football.

Pfffft!

There's only three clubs that ever nade a big deal about European succss historically speaking...

Wolves (believe it or not the trailblazers in that respect); Busby's United and Liverpool once Shankly got there.

We literally became arsed about Europe post the Panathanaikos mugging - I dont get the impression Catterick was particulalry exercised by Europe, unlike that freak Shankly. I can vaguely remember a mid 70s encounter when Milan beat us over two legs on a dodgy pen. I remember my older brother making a big deal of that at the time so I think Everton's interest and intent to do better in Europe possibly dates from that.

Since they got their key takeover i've always maintained that we are bigger overall, but they were ahead in the current era with winning league titles. Sadly they have now matched our title haul and with the CL win, and treble, it's pointless trying to claim we are bigger anymore.

By nearly every measure they are bigger.

Titles - Equal
Trophies - City
Stadium - City
Matchgoing support - City
Players and Manager - City
Wealth - City

I do think their success will always be tainted though. But I do have a respect for their loyal fanbase who were there with them in the early 00's and earlier as they were tested like few others (big clubs anyway) and for those fans I am pleased for them.

The only reason I mention the Panathanaikos game was my dad went to Goodison, and I think we hit the woodwork about six times - he left early and heard the roar go up for the equaliser but we lost in the away goal I think. Everytime it gets mentioned he still goes mad about it 😂.

I think and hope you’re potentially right on what you’ve said before, that Moshiri is our equivalent of City’s Shinawatra and I think once the funding is in place, we will have our own new stadium which I would hope would make us more attractive for an ambitious owner with deep pockets.

Man City
The my just won the Champions League, the League and the FA Cup. We’ll probably never match that

Call me naive but to me the biggest clubs are those with the biggest attendances. I'd factor in some weighting fir trophies won throughout an existence, experience at the top of the pyramid and longevity if I were at clever at mathematical algorithms.

No idea where this puts us mind, and I'm not paid to work it out.

Ask a random person anywhere in the world and they're much more likely to know City exist than know that we exist or indeed the city in which we reside.

Currently we are an irrelevance.
Thanks Bill
That bit reminds me of when West Ham rebranded and all they did was add London to their badge, so people knew where they played 😄
