....In 2002, he left Ernst & Young to become Chief Executive of Chelsea, where he led the £180 million sale to Roman Abramovich in 2003.[4] After the sale, Birch chose not to stay at the club and in October that year was appointed Chief Executive of Leeds United, overseeing the takeover by a local consortium. He then moved to Everton in June 2004 to become Chief Executive.
Birch was given the task of overhauling the Merseyside club's finances,

but resigned after a disagreement over strategy with the board and major shareholders - wasn't Bill the major snareholder?

Yeah, so basically brought in a financial expert , disagreed with him and he left a day or two later. Rumour was that birch seen how bad the club was financially and was pushing him to sell Rooney

I don't mind Bill, I think he does love the club but he is all about 'me' and that overrides what is best for the club. I understand he wants to be chairman when Everton wins something as it the closest to being a player/manager and he wants his name etched into Goodison folklore but let's not kid ourselves that he was our ultimate saviour, his decisions have constantly put the club on the back foot.

Oh I'm not kidding myself just not falling into the black and white entrenched debate that others have evidently got themselves into, we as fan base can right old asses at times. Everton are in good place currently we should all embrace it, just for once and see where it leads.

I never claimed he 'bled Everton dry', in fact for many years, as far as I know he one of the few in the PL who never took a penny in 'fees'...but he's hardly put any in either.
Its 20yrs on now, (I wasnt even on the Internet 20yrs ago) where would I look now to see sources to refresh my memory about this 'major gamble' just what was it, and how major was it?

I’m not sure whether you’d consider borrowing £9m to buy a football club to be a major gamble or not, I guess it’s all relative. At today’s money I imagine it would equivalence to @£80m, in my world that’s a major risk. I would qualify that by stating that I don’t know the exact details of the deal between Kenwright and Johnson and much of it would be subject to an NDA in any event. I’ve stated more than once that there’s a catalogue of mistakes and dodgy dealings that lead back to Bill, with a reasonable degree of supporting evidence, but the drum you’re banging is based on the square root of nothing and I don’t understand why.

You may not remember, but at the time Johnson wanted out there were no serious bidders and it was arguably the blackest time in our history. Bill was not on a white charger, but most of us were very relieved when he took control.

I don’t see the argument that we would be Leeds without him.

We came painfully close to the drop several times under him. I don’t recall him investing to avoid the drop, he just closed his eyes and crossed his fingers and hoped for the best.

Everton stayed in the PL in spite of him not because of him.

It’s been run on fumes and remortgages, sold off assets and loans secured on future earnings.

David Moyes was his luckiest punt, Worked on a shoestring for years without kicking up a fuss and had the club competing more often than not

Without that appointment I dreed to think where we could be

If you were to borrow 9m in 2000, it be the equivalent of about 15m now.

Remember in The Office, in the Christmas special, right at the end when Brent had finally had enough of Finchy's bullchit? What did he say? I hope Uncle Usmanov comes in and says similar: "Bill, why don't you phuc off?"
