I think he'll still go and all that but it is mad that the club missed the ultimate tap-in of good will they could've gotten in years by just sacking him and the board on the same day in a swift statement. They can cry into their millions about how sad they are in the background and even spew their nonsense sob stories to the media if they like.

What they've done now is effectively take away a moment of catharsis and healing for Everton fans and instead have turned it into a circus where much like the prolonged sacking of Lampard and replacement with Dyche, the obvious decision is staring them in the face where everyone knows that's the decision they'll make and yet still they'll plod along dragging their feet until the last possible moment, where in the end it turns into more of circus upon itself again.

If I get to 77 I want to be sat in an armchair with a whisky and slippers. Why put yourself through this Bill.

Because his whole persona is based on being the character of “ Chairman Bill “, that he‘s created for himself.

He’s like the fella that every work place used to have - joined at sixteen and worked his whole life for the company.

Now it’s time for retirement, he’s no idea what to do with himself and is terrified, at the thought of having to reinvent himself outside the safety blanket of work.

Or he's thinking about how to redeem himself now his legacy is one of ruin and stalling for time.
If I get to the age he has and I go to my deathbed with the hundreds of thousands of people spit on the floor at the mention of my name, that would lay heavily on me. I do have a healthy and logical conscience though.

Maybe he's waiting for fans to do something stupid so that he can blame it on the toxic, disgusting actions of the fan base ..?

to be fair to him, if he loves the club, it must be really hard to let go, but that is not fair to Everton if he's not doing the best job. Working tirelessly, putting all your love and energy into the club doesnt mean that you'll do a good job. IF we are a club riddled with sentimental old fashioned ways, we could have - about a year or two ago, made him a life president or some honorary position, if they really dont want to get rid of him.
Otherwise, we have to really just admit that we need better leadership. it doesnt have to be toxic and hate-filled - it's business and it's fair. if so many managers have paid the price for on-pitch results, the board and chair have to also suffer consequences.
To be fair, it's a miracle nobody hasn't done regrettable. Emotions have been running high for a long time. Hopefully he'll be gone soon. Any bovver would be great PR for that toad.
