We can be critical of him from a professional perspective, he sat on the board for 34 years and in that time the club has stagnated on the field.
He made some good decisions in hiring Moyes and all of the excellent local and charitable work.

On a personal level, he seemed like a decent family man who was well respected, that’s all you can hope for when your time is up.

Exactly.

Throwing sly digs and point scoring cos they "didn't say a bad word" or protest against him, don't understand the person and the professional are two separate things.

Something only a Kopite would say.

Hello

Kopites and Skunks chiming in with the "you wanted him out the club so you shouldn't mourn his loss" shouts

As usual, typical response from a brain dead fanbase who cant separate football from human life and respect.

Let's not allow a very small minority to detract, discussion of it is self defeating/just monopolises the thread.

I've just come back to say, that speech he did to the Kop was one of the greatest things I've ever seen from anyone. I had to do an assembly to 300 kids on the theme of "Compassion" once and I used a clip of that speech. The kids got it and talked about it a lot for some time afterwards. I watched it again yesterday and cried.

He didn't get everything right in terms of what was best for Everton Football Club but he was a good man and he did his best.

Personally, I'm not mourning his loss!

Think there are a lot of people who are to concerned about public image by throwing the usual ' Whatever you think of him RIP' posts.

You are aloud to still have a negative opinion on someone, whether they have passed or not, should that change that?

I agree mate, i didn't lose any sleep last night thinking about it plus i was too busy in work for it to be a thought.

Our opinions of him or certainly mine havent changed as we judged him on his time running our football club.
The fact of the matter is whatever we all think someone has lost their life and his friends/family members will be distraught.
So as a fanbase we should be respectful at least for his friends and family.

He was not good for this club IMO as chairman/owner but by all accounts and reading some stuff he was a very good man and well respected by many.

Completely agree and it’s becoming very frustrating to read this narrative.

Yes he was heavily criticised in his role as Chairman. If you seek such an important position you accept it will come with criticism of your performance when the team does badly. Bill was not naive to that.

It’s not hypocrisy to have criticised or called for him to step down as Chairman while now celebrating the personal qualities of warmth, kindness and generosity, shown through so many stories about the man, qualities that despite it all made him a true Evertonian.

Most of us would rather be remembered for our kindness to those around us than for how well we did our jobs and it’s not wrong or hypocritical to have criticised his chairmanship but to now fondly remember him as a man.

Of course. But people shouldn't use it for point scoring is all

I'm very open about my feelings towards him mate and what's happened hasn't changed my views. But for a few days we should just refrain. Let his love ones grieve.
