Good lord. I spent the entire game grimacing at my TV, only to shake my head in disbelief (and thanks) when we were granted a pen. I also thought it was payment for the crap calls against Cahill (who had a decent game streaking towards goal, not so much in the middle).
I will take the three points and hope we start this season differently. I love supporting this team, never a dull moment.
When I saw the starting line-up I was dismayed as well. Fellaini at 2nd striker? Wha?????? No wingers???? (Oh, that's a usual occurrence).
I hope Barkley recovers - he continued to be a gem, and all I thought from the PK was that he was just demonstrating his age. Not good, not bad, just the fact that he's 17. And frankly, though I didn't like what Formica did either, I thought it was a legit PK and he didn't burn me as much as the rest of you. We ended up with the three points, so whatever Formica (couldn't get the image of a kitchen counter out of my head for the whole game no matter how much the announcer said Formeeka)!
One image that disturbed me was around the 70th minute when Neville got caught out too far down the pitch and looked absolutely gassed trying to get back (he didn't make it). GASSED. I'm worried for him and us.
The rest of our team had the "Everton disease" all game. Minus Baines and THo. Distin had moments of brilliance (usually when he was picking up after a Jags error), and moments of "NO!". Arteta took the peno well, but was kinda stinky otherwise. Anichebe made me actually yell "GET UP!" at the TV (though he served a beauty of a ball to Fellaini). Fellaini had a miserable game. Osman didn't do much.
I'm scared for us. Normally wins inspire confidence yes, but this didn't really feel confidence building for me.
Finally, USA, USA, USA!!!!!!!!!! Tim Howard, MOTM. Kisses.
