I think Heitinga causes us a lot of problems in midfield. From what I can tell he should be our deepest lying midfielder but sometimes he's as high up as Vic. I find he causes us to do the long balls because he's just not around to come collect the ball off our defenders.

Also I've got to say that it was probably Big Vic that won us our penalty. At first the ref didn't seem interested then Vic started doing a Rant/Dance and he gave the pen.

Anyone else think that Jags has his mind on something else?? How many times did he give the ball away and look like a rabbit caught in headlights.

Looks like it to me, he's made mistakes leading to goals/opportunities for the opposition in all three games, it looks like the speculation linking him to Arsenal is taking a toll on him.

Good lord. I spent the entire game grimacing at my TV, only to shake my head in disbelief (and thanks) when we were granted a pen. I also thought it was payment for the crap calls against Cahill (who had a decent game streaking towards goal, not so much in the middle).

I will take the three points and hope we start this season differently. I love supporting this team, never a dull moment.

When I saw the starting line-up I was dismayed as well. Fellaini at 2nd striker? Wha?????? No wingers???? (Oh, that's a usual occurrence).

I hope Barkley recovers - he continued to be a gem, and all I thought from the PK was that he was just demonstrating his age. Not good, not bad, just the fact that he's 17. And frankly, though I didn't like what Formica did either, I thought it was a legit PK and he didn't burn me as much as the rest of you. We ended up with the three points, so whatever Formica (couldn't get the image of a kitchen counter out of my head for the whole game no matter how much the announcer said Formeeka)!

One image that disturbed me was around the 70th minute when Neville got caught out too far down the pitch and looked absolutely gassed trying to get back (he didn't make it). GASSED. I'm worried for him and us.

The rest of our team had the "Everton disease" all game. Minus Baines and THo. Distin had moments of brilliance (usually when he was picking up after a Jags error), and moments of "NO!". Arteta took the peno well, but was kinda stinky otherwise. Anichebe made me actually yell "GET UP!" at the TV (though he served a beauty of a ball to Fellaini). Fellaini had a miserable game. Osman didn't do much.

I'm scared for us. Normally wins inspire confidence yes, but this didn't really feel confidence building for me.

Finally, USA, USA, USA!!!!!!!!!! Tim Howard, MOTM. Kisses.

Kay excellent post. I feel the same way. Stinky is a good word for Arteta at the moment but hopefully he will in time revert back to his clinical passing and build up. With Peanut missing we are just throwing everything into the box not a recipe for success unless Moyes unleashes Vellios with Cahill at some point. I agree on Neville who actually looked decent early but looked gassed around the hour mark our aging stars with heavy legs will tell as the season wears on.

I see glimpses of hope and the new boys have to step up sooner rather than later. I think Moyes is right middle of the table is were we will be this year with one of our stars gone for financial and rebuilding reasons.

Fellaini drops too deep in order to get involved. He has no discipline in that respect. The manager plays Heitinga to patrol that back four and link play with midfield.

to be honest, I just dont think he's that good, his errors are coming in back to back games, maybe due to speculation, but they happen every season regardless. He wont get dropped though, he's in the 'favourites' group. If Jonny played like that at the back he would be dropped.

I am delighted with the three points, goes without saying. However, that was as poor a performance I have ever seen and we mugged them. Good!
Jags has been below par 3 games in a row. JH is not a midfielder.
We have played what I consider to be relegation candidates in these opening two games and we have struggled badly. There will be troubles ahead, if this form continues.

If they fail to bring another forward in and someone with pace they'll get found out in the majority of games they play. And I'm factoring into that forecast an upturn in individual form. The manager is a one trick pony and cant operate his preferred security blanket system with an injured Saha upfront on his own, nor will he trust Beckford (cant blame him there like, but he bought him), and he wont even entertain Yakubu.

This is the season Moyes stews in his own piss.

I might start going out more at weekends!

After bashing Blackburn and losing 1-0 to them we deserve this.

Jags? His head doesn't look in it.

Heitinga? Thought he was responsible for the 2nd pen as much as anybody. Loses the ball and jogs right back.

I didn't think Arteta looked bad. Given that he doesn't take on anybody anymore he'll never the be same player but I'm starting to see some linkup with Baines now.

If Fellani is going to play destroyer than just sit the other 3-4 mids in front of him. When he has a partner back there (Heitenga, Arteta etc) they just get in each other's way.

How many times are we going to get ripped apart on the counter when we have free kick/corner?
