Blues abroad needing to explain why they are Blues...

Being from the northwest but outside Manchester and Liverpool (I am a wool and proud) my options were either of the scumbags in red or Everton.

We were quite good in the mid eighties when I made my choice but I have no option but to stick with it.

I certainly wasn’t going to follow my local team (the Alex).

Then back when I was 17 I had a Sunday job on the green trainer truck in Stanley Dock market. Had some great bants with a fellow local toffee Who worked it too.

I was referee at my lads youth game last season. I had a quick chat with both coaches before the game and the opposition coach picked up on my accent, asked me if I was red or blue (in hindsight with some apprehension in his voice). When I said Everton his face lit up, he was also a fan. Helped me through a couple of dodgy decisions lol.

I've found that is pretty typical here. There's quite a few blues and I've had a few good chats in the club rooms over a beer. Even other clubs are pretty good (if they are ex-pats). But kiwi born ones tend to be uneducated- I've been asked what part of London Everton is from by a kiwi Arsenal "fan".

RS are a different matter. Tbh the ex-pat RS I've met are good lads. Happy to have some banter but are also remarkably respectful that I'm a true fan and not a Man City/Chelsea etc glory hunter. Kiwi RS are an entirely different beast, Culltists of the worse kind and to be avoided at all costs.

Pretty similar here in Oz. The aussie born RS fans are terrible and usually have no idea why they support them.
