This is a walnut orb spider.

It may be the same female that has been living on my bird table for the last 3 years - or it could be another, seeing as the fence panel here is about 10 feet away from the bird table.

First shot is the spider on a couple of web strands - this is the "fail" shot.

2nd one is the place where she came to rest after scooting for cover, before hiding completely.

3rd on is what can be done if you play around a bit with crops, composition, and a lens capable of holding some good quality (despite my random processing skills!)

I baulked for a second when I first saw this, then realised that it wasn't a centipede - insects I do not particularly like!

As luck would have it, it turned out to be Oxidus Gracilis, one of the flat-backed millipedes. Even though it's surfaced is slightly domed... ;)

It's a tropical millipede variety, now firmly established in greenhouses all over the country. Up to 23mm long, and 2.5mm wide, they have chestnut to black backs, with yellow keels or wings (the side bits!) Still hard to capture as all those legs mean they tend to move pretty much all the time.

And then the escape route back to the darkness...

My walnut orb spider again. You may see plenty of her over time. :)

I never tire of looking at her when she comes out to wait for her unsuspecting food. Tonight, she is completely upside down close to the fence panel.

Two different shots taken, but #2 & #3 the same one, except for the closer crop in #3.

@Titus Bramble :)

Lovely docile female - whenever she moved into the wrong position, I just guided her back to somewhere better. She climbed on my hands a half a dozen times and was very gentle with me!

I have re-homed her in my outhouse, at the opposite end to the big one that is living at the darkest farthest corner...

Venus lens, Yongnuo diffused flash, and the fangs were with a 12mm tube, 21mm tube, & 1.4x teleconverter...

The solar eclipse in England, both overwhelming and underwhelming at the same time.

An amazing moment in time - and there was no need for filters in the end to see the sun as the cloud cover (as predicted and as always expected) was almost total...

At least many of us will have seen an eclipse, for many the first, for most of us, the last, over England we will witness.

First an uncropped image, and the other a crop from a second image.
