I think a young swallow. There were quite a few wheeling around over cropped fields on either side of the lane when this one careered out of the hedgerow and landed in the lane in front of me. It could not fly more than a foot or so and barely off the ground. I picked it up out of harms way and placed it back beyond the hedgerow into the field margin where at least it stood a chance of recovery (from exhaustion I think, it didn’t seem injured) in relative peace.
