Yes. So a friend told me
Does anybody remember a record shop and video library which I think was called Cut Price Records and was roughly at the top of the steps that now lead down to the large Boots store? I went there quite often when I was doing a postgraduate course at the university in the 1980s (the only time I have actually lived in the city) and I think it was demolished when the Clayton Square was redeveloped. I am not sure if it moved anywhere else after that.

It could be quite brutal buying a record in there.

I remember buying U2’s Boy album in there and him bursting out laughing in front of a packed shop and me shuffling out, with my head hung in shame.

The irony was that he later hooked up with Stock, Aiken and Waterman lol

Yep, albums were pretty cheap in there. Pretty sure they were Greek imports or something mad like that

It used to smell of burnt toast and the owner turned out to be a nazi, but I also liked Quiggins back in the day, bought a few band t shirts and stuff like that there.

LOL.

I knew the owner quite well, as he lived just down the road from my mate in Hale.

He was actually a sound fella, but had some kind of breakdown, over the compulsory purchase of Quiggins and all that followed, which manifested itself in the neo nazi stuff he got into.

He wasn`t like that at all before he became mentally and has a kid, with a mixed race girl.

He did jail time for the neo nazi stuff too - marches, being a member of a banned organisation etc.

He's truly gone down the rabbit hole :

He lost everything over all of this, his house, his business and his relationship with his daughter.

It`s quite incredible that he was never sectioned tbh, as if you spent five minutes in his company, it was very obvious that he was seriously unwell.

I`ve no idea where he is now, as it`s a good while since I`ve seen him, may even be back in jail.

Is that the effect you have on people :D - on shops -

Netto was a great shop for most things ....

Also - Bits & Bytes - computer game shop in Central Station. I used to go in there with pocket money to buy Atari games (Showing my age now).

Now it's the Leather Shop
