Assuming Davies comes in for Schneiderlin, who will be backup CM cover on the bench? Dowell seems a bit of a stretch for that role. Is there any news on Baningime's ankle injury? He would be the obvious next in line after Gueye, Schneiderlin, Gomes, Davies, McCarthy. If Baningime too, is unfit, and with Joe Williams being loaned out to Bolton this week I'm struggling to see any other alternative other than sticking with Dowell as the option off the bench with the alternative of dropping Sigurdsson further back. Neither of them are defensively minded of course. Denis Adeniran or young Alex Denny are the other alternatives in the U23s but it would be a surprise if they were to feature. Let's hope Gueye/Davies can last the 90 mins.

doesn't solve much but i imagine bernard could play in sigs role and sig drop deeper if one of them 2 get injured. would be highly surprised i imagine it would be dowell. do we know if bernards travelled with squad?

I agree it would be a surprise if one of those young lads were involved. Just seems a bit of a risk to be without any defensive minded CM backup.

If Davies got injured Sigurdsson would drop back and put Bernard where Sigurdsson was. If Gueye gets injured... well... :oops:

Totally disagree. I'm not sure where the idea that Holgate was a good ball player came from but most Evertonians have bought into what is ultimately a myth. Keane isn't exactly great either but he is better.

I would say Zouma could cover the defensive mid role if required.
