Boxing

The sports in its death throes, the money men will milk it with these terrible ufc xover fights and youtuber trash. Lads who work to the top of the amateur game to get a pro contract won't see a penny and now with Saudi fans can't even go.

A Prime example of capitalism reducing everything good about something in the name of profit, killing what it once was.

All jokes aside tonight, it’s actually a sad day for boxing this. Decisions like this does more damage to the sport than it does good. It happens time and time again because these governing bodies know that further down the line, that fighter is more marketable and makes them more money long term. What it also does, it drives casual fans away who only tune in for big fights. It’s a shame because from a fans perspective, it’s been a good year for boxing. A lot of fights have been made that was “dream” fights in some ways

It's what happens when you turn it into WWE and let YouTubers take over. When there's more money, there's more "control" on outcomes and media management.

Last night was a glorified sparring match that's now being promoted as a "robbery" based on a tap and a slip knockdown. Fury was never going to "lose" and FN doesn't have to box ever again with the millions he's made (he probably won't)

Even if he did "win"...it was an exhibition match with no belts on the line and the outcome is the same...FN doesn't need to box and Fury still has Usyk.

Although you’re right, it’s exactly what is wrong with boxing. This has been happening long before the YouTubers came along. When you have ex boxers, boxers and celebrities posting on social media saying it’s a bad look for boxing, it drives more and more people away.

After that last night, the Usyk vs Fury fight loses its appeal even more and what should be a mega fight, turns people away and lose a lot of the casual base buying it.

When it’s billed as a fight between the two baddest men, with the boxer been the clear favourite and in 98% of people who tuned into it reckon the novice won, it turns people away and puts people off a sport with a badly damaged reputation.

We can all say it was a glorified sparring session, an exhibition, a money grab. The fact that wins goes down on Fury’s record as an official win due to it been sanctioned by the BBBoC is embarrassing.

By the way, that was a legit knockdown that.

Also two judges scored round 9 to Fury which is embarrassing in itself.

There's always been money fights and exhibitions. But they've always been up front about what they are and usually a one off to drum up publicity.

It's now regularly with big TV networks actually commentating on it like they're legitimate professionals. It becoming a blurred line that while it's the same sport they're completely different to each other. Which I think is the irritation. Devalues the actual professionals because it's not this over here

You won't get people getting seriously injured in these YouTuber bouts because...they're not professional fighters. It's a playfight. Glorified white collar you can see at the local workies club.

As for the that "legit" knock down....I don't believe anything in those fights

It has though, been some great fights, match ups and big fights but sadly a lot go under the radar. Obviously some fights haven’t happened but been some massive fights happened that nobody is interested in due to lack of promotion for them.
Even last night the Wardley Adaleye was a good fight but it seemed like a completely different event with the subsequent music festival.

Get that fight as the top bill on a domestic card as part of a normal sports subscription, bit of marketing and it's a very succesful night for British boxing and the broadcaster. Easily done considering how they managed to hype Smith/Eubank as a PPV level event.

But nope, let's make it a footnote in a panto. There's no love for boxing from boxing promoters.

My stream went down so I only caught the last three rounds. I did see the knockdown….that was a definite knock down, a significant punch to the temple. The thing about Fury is he has a decent chin, not in the sense he doesn’t go down, but he gets back up…it doesn’t take long for him to return to his senses and reorientate himself.

From what I saw of the last three rounds, I didn’t see a massive difference between the fighters. Fury started dancing a bit more but his punch count didn’t look great. I imagine he knew he was in a bit of trouble, and wanted to look busy without throwing himself in harms way.

I don’t like Fury, I think he is overrated by having a modicum of boxing ability but understanding he can use a combination of that and his height to his advantage, but he will be in far better shape when he faced Usyk. I agree that it will probably be rescheduled to about March/April time. There is no doubt that Usyk is the better boxer and all round fighter, and I think he shades it on points, but we will see a far better Fury.

Pro Wrestling is arguably better value for money than boxing right now, even for advertisers, especially as WWE is doing good business

At least it’s up front that it’s entertainment and you get better production values and athleticism in some cases

If you can shut off your brain and accept that it’s a soap opera/panto then you can have fun with it

I don’t mind the YouTubers because they actually promote the sport in a way some of these fighters need to do, yeah it’s rubbish. But they sell a fight, they sell an event and fill out arenas. People tune in regardless of they think it’s rubbish, because they’ve done their job and promoted an event. Something boxing lacks apart from a select few fighters. I’ll use Joshua as a perfect example, he’s been promoted and over exposed, when he loses, it backfired on him because people say he’s rubbish, over hyped and so on.

What made a mockery out of the sport in last nights main event is that you’ve got the lineal, WBC heavyweight champion of the world in a professional boxing fight against an MMA fighter that was sanctioned. The man ducked Joshua and Usyk in the last 18 months to fight Derek Chisora snd Feancis Ngannou. People can say it’s pretend or whatever, the fact is, Fury got beat, dropped and was out aggressed by a novice.

What boxing needs is a new system in place cos the judges are terrible. Last night one judge gave Rocky Hernandez every round against O’Shaquie Foster, close fight but no way Hernandez won every round. Now it’s in Mexico and Rocky is the home fighter but that shouldn’t happen.
