Boxing

Fury won the fight by scoring points /punches landed etc.
However Ngannou landed the more damaging shots, got a Knockdown so despite a win it was competitive when it shouldn't have been and bad for fury.
Fury was spooked by Ngannou's power, and because he so unfit even by his standards, wasn't able to to avoid being hit when coming into range.
Another issue fury had was Ngannou was a similar weight, and probably physically stronger so fury was unable to rag doll him while clinching.
In fact he was loosing out in the clinch Ngannou's MMA skill set helped him here.

Fury looked like he hadn't trained, my guess is he's turned up for 6 week camp weighing over 300lbs, hung over and on a come down from the sniff.

Ngannou was a pleasant surprise, disciplined and strong. I reckon fury took him for granted. He'll take the SD loss and the millions of dollars, and possibly a few fight options have opened up for him. A good agent would be hawking him around youtube training and meet and greets with other boxers to keep his profile up.

He won because that's the result the promoters and Saudi Arabia wanted ahead of the unification bout with Usyk. The justification emerging now seems to be scoring/punching more etc but that's not the reason he won.

It was though, if you watch that fight back with no sound and just score it you struggle give ngannou rounds other than the 10/8 in round 3, and round 8.
The reason I say sound off, the crowd can easy Influence how we think the fight is going, when ngannou threw the crowd were getting excited, making us think some shots were landing when they were missing.
With the sound off most the fight you see Ngannou not being able to close the distance down and missing a lot.

It was an embarrassment for fury but he did win.

The problem with scoring a fight, is it just boils down to opinion hence why judges can never agree, and fans never agree. It all depends what you prefer in a fight, what you class as winning rounds, what you think wins a round, do you prefer someone just jabbing and moving, or a fighter receiving jabs but still pushing the pace, landing bigger punches, closing distance, what you see on the eye. Although, a lot of fans do score fights by listening to judges, people also score fights by just actually watching the round. How many times do we hear that a round is won in the last 20 seconds of a round because s fighter came on strong but did nothing else in that round? A lot.

Most fans who tune in, aren’t gonna know the difference between what actually wins a round but think the other fighter won a round because of pushing the pace, closing the distant and so on. Judging fights needs to change massively because it’s damaging the sport. Bad cards are happening on every show nowadays. Nothing is getting done to resolve it and will continue. Consensus is, Ngannou won not because Fury was under par or it was a shock value in his performance but simply because he done a lot more than Fury. He was pushing the pace, closing the distance, landing bigger shots, mixing it up and also thrown more punches. We can all say Fury landed more punches but he literally out landed him by about 10 shots. Wasn’t a huge difference.

For Fury, 3 fighters have shown the way to beat him now and it’s all the exact game plan. Someone with a good boxing IQ, ring awareness and footwork will expose it something serious.

I agree it wasn't the travesty it's made out to be but if you reverse the performances Fury still gets the decision. There was no way that the start of the Riyadh Sporting Season or whatever they were calling it was going to be undermined by a defeat for Fury before the Fury/Usyk fight.

The stats posted earlier in the thread don't show a massive amount of difference in who was missing shots.

Agree good points

I guess when I score I like movement & range control
Fury was controlling the range and from the way I score fights (prob 2 of the judges on the night ) seen fury as in control most rounds

The difference is enough like, and it looks more obvious ngannou was missing as he missing a lot of power punches.so it looked like he couldnt close the distance and swinging for fences in most rounds

It’s very tricky to do because it can change on a fight to fight basis and what you expect from a certain fighter and how you expect them to fight. It does need a clear system in place and to be cleared up. I’ve not watched the fight back but i’m sure Fury won if you was to score it by the rules but thought Ngannou just did more and deserved the win.

Still to this day the hardest fight ever had to score was Andre award vs Kovalov 1. Was convinced live that Kovalov won, watched it back and thought Ward won.
