The problem with scoring a fight, is it just boils down to opinion hence why judges can never agree, and fans never agree. It all depends what you prefer in a fight, what you class as winning rounds, what you think wins a round, do you prefer someone just jabbing and moving, or a fighter receiving jabs but still pushing the pace, landing bigger punches, closing distance, what you see on the eye. Although, a lot of fans do score fights by listening to judges, people also score fights by just actually watching the round. How many times do we hear that a round is won in the last 20 seconds of a round because s fighter came on strong but did nothing else in that round? A lot.
Most fans who tune in, aren’t gonna know the difference between what actually wins a round but think the other fighter won a round because of pushing the pace, closing the distant and so on. Judging fights needs to change massively because it’s damaging the sport. Bad cards are happening on every show nowadays. Nothing is getting done to resolve it and will continue. Consensus is, Ngannou won not because Fury was under par or it was a shock value in his performance but simply because he done a lot more than Fury. He was pushing the pace, closing the distance, landing bigger shots, mixing it up and also thrown more punches. We can all say Fury landed more punches but he literally out landed him by about 10 shots. Wasn’t a huge difference.
For Fury, 3 fighters have shown the way to beat him now and it’s all the exact game plan. Someone with a good boxing IQ, ring awareness and footwork will expose it something serious.
