Boxing

Loads of stuff supposed to have been going on with Liston around the time of the Ali fight.
His correct age, outside. Pressures ect.
Lots of stuff doing the rounds on the net as usual.
Seen an interesting interview with his sister after he died , she had a few interesting things to say about his death ect.
I was to young to see him on tv ect.
But have a look at any of his fights you can see online, scary fella indeed.
Forman I caught when I was a kid.
What a fighter.
Liston was caught up with the Mafia, wasn't he? Admitted that he took a dive or two.

The Ali fight with the 'ghost punch' and Ali shouting at him to get up..'no one will believe this'

And then had a suspect overdose that's always been questioned by his family. They hid the drug paraphernalia or something that hindered the investigation. Mafia involvement was always shouted.

But my god, what a baller. His punches KO anyone from the last 20 odds years IMO.

Afraid of needles?
Owed the mob money?
Owed the pigs money?
Biggest fists in pro boxing history (15") !
Enforcer for the mob
Many women friends

go look at his childhood. apartheid us. very very troubling.

Pardon me.

  • Dubois aint no flash in the pan, that kid has heavy hands. Thrown in to early against the best instead of nurtured. $$ vs care.
  • Smokin Joe. Go give him a look and then his back story for 'that' left.
  • Boxing has always been dirty, even in its cleanest moments, lets rejoice other parasites that are not don king are getting theirs.
  • Bruno is a sad state of affairs, but never was he turning down $4M
  • The art of boxing is hitting without being hit, it's why chess is so idolised. Sun Tzu next for you kidda. ;)
I know nothing and have never stepped inside the squared circle.

Dubios comes across as an old school throw back. Thick as sh1t and a banger.

But no one was taking about him until the AJ fight (and after 20 odd fights)

And as classy as that win looked, I'm not sure that form holds up in any other era.

Happy (and hoping) to be proved wrong.

Yes, boxing has always been dirty and corrupt, but fighters never ducked eachother in the good old days to the extent we see now. Started with Mayweather and Pac IMO.

All of the above!

Liston didn't even box until he was in prison, I think.

Mind you AJ didn't walk into a boxing gym until he was 17 and 6'6.

Marciano.
Then the tampering of the mid 80's.

And coming off the back of a drugs conviction whilst then part of the gb boxing squad.

Caught transporting a few ounces of bergeracs finest grade.

All sorts going on about him mate.
Had one rough life, especially his early life
The death thing was he died of an overdose.
Had a small bit of on him , weed and smack.
None of the stuff to take it on the scene,Supposedly ?
Lots that knew him said he had a life long fear of needles.
He was supposed to be in good spirits after yet another dark chapter in his life, and was supposed to be saying he was going to do a book and putting the whole truth out there,
considering his early life that would have put him on the target of some serious people .
He worked as hired muscle at various times .
Who knows what went on sadly boxing is riddled with tales of outside influences, Mob, betting ect that rarely see the fighters coming out of it good.
So don't think we will ever know

Bettered a troop of pigs in his time, and I applaud him.

To quote Ali "no Vietnamese ever called me N*****"

That period of professional sport needs understanding to the backdrop of the very sanitized 'civil rights' era. (not just pro sport btw!)

Guy at my gym and a good mate was all set to go to the 2008 Olympics but got caught in a fight in town and got washed out. One rule for one...

I also got a mate who got kicked out the Met for defending himself when rounded on by a group of lads. But not the right place for that one. I say this as know your thoughts on said firm.

Disagree with that. Up until the Joyce fight he was being touted as a hot prospect that the top fighters in the division were avoiding because he was high risk low reward.

I think that loss really shook his confidence, which the culminated in his quitting against Usyk. But somewhere along the way he found his mojo again.

And fighters ducking each other have been going on, on a large scale since long before Floyd and Manny.

Yes he was a meeter and greeter at Mafia hotels in Las Vegas, a great boxer, took a dive in the second Cassius Clay fight, lost the first fight by seating on his seat when the bell went for the seventh or eight round. In the second fight Desmond Hackett of the Daily Express said it was a fight he just couldn’t win, the odds were still 1/7 on him winning same as the first fight so Cassius was around 7/1 to win this fight, the Mafia money was on Cassius so Liston dived to suit his masters———if he had won the fight he would have seriously lost outside the ring.Sonny wanted to be a great champion, said so himself after winning the title from Floyd Patterson, unfortunately he was “ The Champion Nobody Wanted” the title of a biography of him. He wasn’t even wanted by many people of his own race.

Big weekend about to land. Everyone one on the Usyk train?
Yes I’m going for Usyk but just watched a video of them eyeballing each other for over ten bleedin’ minutes before Fury started the insulting game which carried on for a few more boring minutes. I hope there is a lot of actual action in the fight than this gamesmanship nonsense!

I think Fury wins tomorrow…I thought he was leading last time up til about round 6ish, but Usyk was clever enough with his movement to minimalist the height / reach advatange. I just think Fury maintains that tomorrow and moves more, even if it’s close I think judges go with Fury to then get a third chapter in the diary….its all boxing box office business.

Not sure. Usyk might call it a day.
