Patti Smith Group - certainly a "Boss" cover

Technically not a cover.

Bruce had been working on the song for darkness on the edge of town but could never finish it so his producer gave it to Patti Smith who changed the lyrics and released it.

Springsteen's only recorded version of this song appears on "The promise" which he released in 2010.

Both versions are great though.

Wasn't it also covered as a club tune in the 2000's when those songs were really popular?

Johnny Cash did a whole album of good ones from unlikely sources late on.

I'm familiar with Hurt, which definitely deserves a shout here, but not the entire album so have to go check it out.
