British Super League

This will probably gather more steam with the Benelux league being a thing.

Not that there is a team from Luxembourg in there.

I'd prefer upping the league to 22 or even 24 clubs and binning off the League Cup.

I wouldn’t mind that but don’t think the scabby six would agree to that. If they had their way they’d have the league club completely abolished as they don’t like the extra games.

It's a pointless competition. Every club should be in favour of binning it.

Have to disagree I think its good that clubs still have another cup to aim for and it gives another space in the Europa League. Even if it is usually mostly won by the scabby six themselves.

It’s also very beneficial to lower league clubs, brings in extra money for them and helps through ticket sales etc...

British Super League now being proposed, and it's been backed by FIFA and UEFA. As part of a Premier League reform, plans have been in the pipeline for a while that would see Rangers and Celtic join the league.

Seems fair, smaller teams like Brighton, Burnley, West Brom all work hard to establish and enhance the product, only to be farmed out as soon as something better comes along.

Celtic and Rangers have had their chance, so if you want it, you're going to have to earn it, i'm afraid.

I think if the 6 Premier league teams had left, this could have been a thing. But now that's not happening, it doesn't make sense.

If 6 teams had left it would have been a sort of "damage control" phase for the Premier league. How do you replace 6 teams?

One way to do that could have been to add some of the Scottish teams and you could do that without the normal promotion and relegation.

I think if the league was down to 14 teams, you could add 2 Scottish teams and 4 championship teams.

You could even go further and add the top 6 from SPL into the EPL, I'm not sure outside of the top 2 in Scotland the others have a global draw.

As it stands, with the 6 staying, it makes no sense to add the Scottish teams. The Premier league is a strong league and the argument will be that the Scottish teams have not earnt a place in the Premier league

It's not pointless for lower league teams, for whom it's a valuable source of income. You know this past week was about the entire football community, not just the biggest teams, right?

No I think its pointless for them too. Have a bigger revenue in the FA Cup instead.

I think that's being very generous to those sides.

Realistically, outside of the top 2, the Scottish teams MAY be bottom end Championship sides, it's fell so much lately that they're scouting National League and League two for their "big" signings.

Certainly that model would be fine, but I'd think at that point, you'd realistically look to have 18 teams, and expand the cups to allow Scottish Top and Championship sides into League cup and Welsh and Scottish League One & Two into the Football League Trophy.
