BRUCE RIOCH

I can't confirm it but I heard that he ran half the length of the pitch and took a M'bro player out the game with a vicious tackle and the Chairman of Everton said to him that we don't do things like that at this club. He was sold shortly afterwards.

Everytime we got a free kick the crowd sang his name. Had an great shot on him at Derby County but didn't see it much here. Good player though when he didn't have his snide head on.

Bingham bought him alongside magic Dunc.
Middlesbrough left back called Bailey (a teenager), Rioch put him out for weeks. I think it showed in his mangement too, he put Martin Keown
and Tony Adams together, the finest centre-half pairing in Rugby Union.

......Rioch was a tough nut, bit of nastiness there.

I think a really good generic question would be to ask who did they rate as the best players when they were at Everton. Lots of lads on here ask how good ex-players were (recent thread about Brian Labone), it would be good to have a view from the players over the different era's.

He was a bit of a yobbo, more suited to that lot on the other side of the park. Him and Steve "[Poor language removed] off" McMahon, 2 players we had who didn't suit us.

Or was it a cop out that he let a great midfielder go too early to Villa?????

Only the man himself knows that. He sounded convincing that Everton could not afford Trevor Steven then Villa put in a good offer for McMahon so he weighed it up and decided on Trevor Steven
