That's the only way to allow a level playing field.

What's the *rule* for postponing games at the moment?

It all feels on a whim.

Too much uncertainty.

There's tests.

For me, teams should be told if they can't field a team they forfeit.

It's not ideal but it's better than winging it - every game will be in doubt over winter.

I think there was a rule about teams needing to have at least 11 players with premier league experience fit and (possibly) 2 subs...something like that.

However, last season when United, Cityand some other top teams had a handful of cases the games were rescheduled.

Definitely seems to be done on a whim.

Should be set rules.

I had a polio sugar lump forced down my throat in the late 70s when I was an infant, it was not by choice but child abuse.

In all honestly, Burnley should be given the win.

Any team in the competition who claim they cant fulfil their fixture should forfeit.

That should be applicable to every team.
I would generally agree

But the predecent has already been set and we've had 3 called off previously due to outbreaks in other teams (City, villa, Leicester). So the predecent is that we don't have to play when we have issues ourselves.

Im very happy this and perhaps the Newcastle game have been postponed.

We get Richarlison and DCL back (and others) plus perhaps Mykolenko and one or two others.

Even if Burnley and the Geordies make signings id rather we faced them when were at full strength.

Indeed.

I'm sharing the view I've had since Man City decided to postpone their game against us because of a handful of cases.

I'm glad the game has been postponed and it should have been after others were.

But two wrongs...

They seem to have announced set rules now. Or at least quite clear guidance:

When making an application, clubs must provide the Board with the following details, together with clear reasons why they believe the match should be postponed:

- Players and staff who have returned a positive COVID-19 test, their vaccination status and, if known, the source of their infections
- Players and staff who are self-isolating
- Players who are unavailable to play through injury or illness
- Players listed on the club’s squad list who are still available to play in the match, including appropriately experienced Under-21 players (which includes Under-21 players who have played for the club, another Premier League or EFL club, or an overseas club in the current season)
- Supporting medical information to verify the status of each unavailable player, which will be reviewed by the League’s medical advisers

As the guidance shows, the Board will consider the following principal factors when making a decision:

1) The impact of COVID-19 infections on a club’s squad, as well as injuries, illness and those isolating, and the number of players available on the squad list and any Under-21 players with appropriate experience. Where a club cannot field 13 outfield players and a goalkeeper either from its squad list or its appropriately experienced Under-21 players, the match will be postponed.
2) The status of any COVID-19 outbreak within a club, including the number of individuals affected, the sequence and source of infections and their proximity to the match in question.
3) A club’s ability to safely prepare its players in the lead-up to a match.
4) Medical advice as to whether there is any unacceptable risk to the health and safety of players and staff by playing the match.
5) Any advice from UK Health Security Agency and other public bodies.
6) Any other exceptional circumstances.
