Christmas racing, starting the 26th just confirmed as behind closed doors in leopardstown. Always a fantastic occasion in Dublin for the festive season, had hoped this was behind us.

it's got nothing to do with that. The Premier League only caved because Benitez - to his credit - forced their hand yesterday by explaining it.

The government has no need to step in and stop sporting events. It can - and maybe should - make a decision on fans going to games (or certain capacities) but there's no need for footy to go into a government-enforced shutdown.

The omnishambles government is incapable of giving any direction. It is paralysed.

We are governing ourselves in the absence of direction. That is why football has made confused decisions.
