Cabbage rocks !

I grew up in the irish countryside so Cabbage is somthing which we had once or twice a week. The main way we would have had it is with Bacon, Turnip, Cabbage and Mash! It was amazing.

One the ways i try and make veg a little bit more exciting is by doing it different ways. What abot this...

Cabbage rolled and stuffed with a spicy Chorizo Rice, and wrapped in Bacon.

Basically cook you rice, fry off an onion, a chilli, chorizo and a little soya sauce, once the mix has cooled then squeeze a little lemon juice into the rice.
No cook the cabbage for minute, then lay it out on a chopping board and pack the rice along the middle and roll. Use streaky bacon to hold it together then bung it in the oven for 15 minutes.

You will thanks me later.

Cabbage rolls are real popular in Eastern Europe. My Hungarian grandmother used to make them all the time. Rice, beef and onions stuffed in the cabbage drowned in some sort of tangy red tomato sauce.

Always brings back fond memories when I have these now a days. My housemates think its the oddest thing they've ever seen.

Well it also has all the hallmarks of something Mexican. The Golden Trio of Mince, Onion and Sauce!

The thing which puts a lot of people off is the smell, but I find that the smell only kicks in if over boiled. It only needs a minute. Also simply fried with a bit of bacon is superb. Keep it simple.

A lot of green veg falls into this same category, Broccoli etc.

Big shout for Pak Choi, i would have this once a week! Stir fry with a little garlic, ginger and fish sauce...ohh yes!

I love cabbage, Savoy, wilted with a bit of butter and black pepper and a nice fillet of beef.

I used to drink hot cabbage water as a kid,I may even start drinking it again.

Also, cabbage soup is a great way to lose weight, for obvious reasons.
