My brother lives in Ottowa, his son and young family are in Nova Scotia very near the fires. Fingers are crossed.
The planet's doomed isn't it. We've caused this. I remember being taught about this potential 40 years ago, and i myself have said it to kids at school and MPs for 40 years since but nobody listened. All governments did was use the environment to justify tax increases and people voted for more. We deserve what we get now I'm afraid.

weird when you can feel/sense the effects of something so far away. a few years ago we had some haze/yellow skies due to Saharan dust storms and that was wild. can only imagine this is the same but in a harrowing sort of way.

Of course these politicians convinced the electorate that they knew more than Carl Sagan. As a collective we get the government we deserve

I guess the planet itself will survive, but us, we're pretty well f'd.

A lot of species died off before our time and during it, and probably after it. That's the way of it.
This is the first time an epoch has been named after a singular species such is the influencewe have on the planets cycles, its not the way of it. Biodiversity will be destroyed because of anthropological influences. In my opinion that deserves more than a shoulder shrug.

Mankind names epoch it exists in after man is not an argument - more egocentric than anything else. If an animal becomes tge apex animal, it dictates the environment is very much the way of things. I actually think that mankind's impact on the planet and biodiversity is a bad thing but species evolve, thrive and die off all the time. It's not a shoulder shrug. It just is.
We do as a species have the ability to influence the climate on earth. We are seemingly on a path to harming ourselves and our ability to flourish which will probably hit a crisis point if it hasn't already. Something will be done unless those who wield power find the cost to them personally too much.
I do hope that the fires in Canada are stopped quickly and safely and all those affected can return to normality as soon as possible.
