Car brands and their appeal: what calls out to you?

I am single, have no family to ferry around, and truth be told have never been a very enthusiastic motorist, although I am addicted to car shows on TV such as Wheeler Dealers etc. I therefore tend to buy smaller cars which become glorified shopping trolleys, but need sufficient space for trips to the tip, or golf course (for 2). I currently drive a Citroen DS3 which has been reliable and suits may needs perfectly. My next car will is also likely to be in the "supermini" class, and could wll be a Mini 5 door hatch -we shall see.

An enlightening discussion in another thread reveals Jaguar cars appeal to "James Bond" types.

Which leads me to think, most of us own cars. We buy them for multiple reasons, one of which can be brand identity. Equally, some aspire to own a different type of car.

What does your car say about you?

Which lifestyle object do you aspire to and why?

have a Volvo XC40, the other day as I was driving along the voice assistance randomly butted in and said " I refuse to move any further as I heard you referring to me as she" " Here's where we terminate, I want a more woke owner than you"

2 x VW Mk2 Golfs - still got a 16v Gti
2 x VW Mk 1 Polos
2x Golf Mk3 Gti`s
1x Golf Mk 3 Estate
1x Golf Mk 4 petrol
2x Golf Mk4 Tdi - still got one.
1 x VW T5 Transporter - still got it.

I`ve also had 2 x Peugot 1.9 205 Gti`s and an Astra too.

Tbh, I`ve no idea how I became a VW enthusiast, it kind of just happened after I bought the Golf Mk2 16v which I`ve still got and I`ve owned nothing but VW`s since then.

Your insurance bill must be mental, unless you sorn.

I got an SUV around 2013 and have pretty much had those since.

Had to trade my Audi Q5 in about 2 1/2 years ago for a Mercedes Viito van for my new business venture.

However, if I could buy another car right now it would be another SUV.
Not a huge one though. Something like the new Hyundai Tucson or Peugeot 3008.

So what that says about me is that I am practical and typing this out says I am a proper boring bell end.

The Mk2 Golf Gti is on a classic insurance - £100 quid a year, with breakdown included !

The T5 Transporter is on a limited mileage, agreed valuation policy, due it`s modifications, so that`s not too bad.

The Golf Tdi is worth buttons, so is on a third party fire and theft, due to it`s age and low value, so that`s pretty much buttons too.

All in all, I reckon I pay the same price per year for the three of them, that most are paying for their family car.

It`s the road tax that`s the big kicker, as it`s a fair old whack for the van, with it`s big smelly diesel engine.

* The Golf gets SORN`d in the Winter too.
