Car brands and their appeal: what calls out to you?

2 x VW Mk2 Golfs - still got a 16v Gti
2 x VW Mk 1 Polos
2x Golf Mk3 Gti`s
1x Golf Mk 3 Estate
1x Golf Mk 4 petrol
2x Golf Mk4 Tdi - still got one.
1 x VW T5 Transporter - still got it.

I`ve also had 2 x Peugot 1.9 205 Gti`s and an Astra too.

Tbh, I`ve no idea how I became a VW enthusiast, it kind of just happened after I bought the Golf Mk2 16v which I`ve still got and I`ve owned nothing but VW`s since then.
So it's safe to say you're a big fan of VAG-in a round about way

I'm lucky that I've had most of my dream classic cars at some point - cheap to maintain and not much depreciation. The current stables:

Jag xj6 - because I'm a James Bond type, sophisticated, smooth, with understated power.

Daimler 250 v8 - because it simply looks and sounds beautiful and I appreciate a good aesthetic.

MG Midget - my fun, devil may care side.

Tesla model 3 - becauae i have a soft spot for modern tech. On reflection that midern tech was 20+ years ago when everything was intuitive, engineered and well thought out by my generation, and not thrown together by infant "designers." By God I regret buying a modern car with my retirement lump sum! Absolutely fantastic to drive, cheap to run, so long as nothing goes wrong, an absolute nightmare to operate with everything on that daft screen - 4 presses in different areas of the screen to turn on foglights only for the car to decide it's too light and switch all off moments later. Horrendous depreciation!

Modern car just says I'm a mug.

An enlightening discussion in another thread reveals Jaguar cars appeal to "James Bond" types.

Which leads me to think, most of us own cars. We buy them for multiple reasons, one of which can be brand identity. Equally, some aspire to own a different type of car.

What does your car say about you?

Which lifestyle object do you aspire to and why?
I aspire...with in a somewhat flexible, but modest budget...to a jaguar XJR V8 4.0 with supercharger.
Bearing in mind that the TATA owned Jag has decided to embrace true wokery / DEI and go all in in EVs...probably 15yrs to late, given many none Chinese manufacturers are scaling back EV production
Anyway enough rant.
Even though it was Ford owned at the time(?) It is - in my mind, still enough of a Jag to be called the last true Jag.

What in the Nigel farage are you on about

There is the semblance of a point in there, although ham fisted in it's execution.

Jag going all in on not just EV only, but 100k plus ev's is madness.

If there's any taste for it at Aston Martin, they could take that segment of the market and make a killing. Still a lot of people who want something a little different to the German exec cars.
