Cars 7 years old. Land rover/discovery. Just hitting 50k. I don't do a lot of driving as evidently, I'm a internet nerd.

Predict the damage.

What was the outcome Mr. Clarkson ?

TBH my mate, a top mechanic at a Mercedes garage, warned me - low mileage can do more damage to a car if it just sits there - thing seize up the underneath is open to rust etc - even if garaged - make sure you have it parked on a carpet as even condensation in a cold garage can cause rust underneath on brake pipes etc -

You should be OK - certain cars are rust boxes any rate - I have never had any luck with Ford s- chassis & inner wings etc - yet some love them ....
Also, where you take them some MOT centres are fair, some just look for work .....

I take mine to a local garage recommended by my above mate & he does any necessary work on his drive except welding - but they seem to pass 90% of the time .... good luck

It's easy to do, but it's so annoying that I actually want it fixed.

Most worrying in all of this is how the Land Rover turned into a Dodge Monaco.

So stung for just £346 for service + MOT.

Took mine to a council ran MOT centre. There's no garage there so they aren't looking to generate work for themselves. The drawback being that if they do find something you can't leave it with them to fix - you've gotta get it booked in elsewhere, take it there and then get a booking for the retest before going back.

Passed without so much as an advisory last time though so worked out nicely.

I only EVER go to a mot centre where I can stand under the car and chat to the bloke doing it so that he soon realises that I know about cars and am going to fix any failure points myself, rather than them trying to get work.

When my regular bloke in the garage retired, I had a worrying time finding a new place. Any that said "just waiting in the sitting room for me sir" never got another visit.

I, too, go to other people's places of work and annoy them while they do said work.
