Carabao Cup 2023/24

No wonder the club doesn’t win anything with some of the reactions in here. A two legged semi final against Liverpool. There’d have been no downside for us, everyone would expect us to lose, they’d have absolutely hated it, and had we won it would have been a huge moment to start turning round the mentality of the club. Going out the cup early to avoid facing top teams is not the mentality that wins anything.
In any other season where we we weren't deducted 10 points I'd have had this attitude too. I;m certainly not afraid of seeing our best 11 go head to head with them.

But an emotional and energy sapping couple of SFs would have meant the extension of our hectic Christmas / new year period by another 2 games and 2 weeks.

We simply cant afford the chances of more players becoming injured / drained.

Anyone who believes we've got this relegation threat under control are dreaming. This will be going to the wire even if we keep most of our key players on the pitch.

You have to play a top side somewhere down the line to a cup final.

Totally pathetic post.

Our hectic Christmas/New Year? Doesn't else have one too. Should we just forget the FA Cup then and play the under 16's then because god forbid, professional footballers on frankly stupid wages, would need to play an extra game.

Have you seen the state of Burnley, Luton and Sheffield Utd? and you think we should avoid any extra games because we're in the mud with them? wow

Dave already has, he wants us out that as well

technically no

if we had got to a semi final we would have played 13 games in December and January

instead we are now only playing 11 games in December and January

compared to:

Burnley - 10 games
Sheffield United - 10 games
Luton - 9 1/2 games
Nottingham Forest - 10 games

so we would have played 3 games more than our relegation rivals

Fair but the point is despite the 10 point deduction we're picking up points and looking up, the gap widens every week. To deem the a cup semi final as 'not worth it' because of 2 extra games is truly bizarre

i guess the argument that davek is trying to make is that we lack the squad depth to really compete in all competitions this year amidst a relegation battle due to the points deduction

doucoure, onana and gueye have all be injured at some point this season already and we lack real depth in that midfield department at the moment. Aside from Garner the only other real options are Gomes who has been injured all season and Alli who has been injured all season then you have to look at either Ashley Young to fill in a role somewhere or some youth player.

Middlesbrough, a crap Chelsea who we dismantled not so long ago and RS who have been airlifted by VAR and Ref's?

A place in the final four of a cup without City and Arsenal an opponents is a big opportunity missed. You're lying to yourself if you think otherwise.
Middlesbrough wouldn’t have been a factor for us in the end, we wouldn’t have played them in the semi and they’ll probably be out by the final.

Liverpool are probably playing better than City and Arsenal this season anyway, maybe without Salah they’ll struggle but they looked comfortable without him last night.

We drew and were beaten by two of those three.

This is the type of attitude that gets you relegated.

We could yet get another points deduction, did you factor that into your cavalier approach to this season?
