CARABAO CUP DATES

Pretty sure the majority of clubs prefer no extra time. All clubs rest players. Extra time is an advantage for the richest teams with the biggest squads.

You might have a point that clubs in Europe should not get a bye in the 2nd round, but that is not something new. Introduced 28 years ago.

Regarding seeding. You can argue Everton were seeded last drawing. Teams were divided between northern and southern sections. Everton being a northern team and Liverpool, Man City and Man Utd having a bye, Everton had a much less chance of drawing Premier League competition than southern teams. Luck of the draw? Nope. Corrupt?

Going to bed now, so don't want to be rude.

So drawing a line, but even drawing the CL Teams out first meaning they get 5 cracks at a lower league side (which is low, given that 17 PL sides in draw, but they could only draw 11 of them).
By the time the draw came our and we got the luck of the draw you mentioned, my point was there in that 5 got lower league sides along side the pre-determined home draw.

Just a great way of alienating fans even further.

Miss a round and get a bye in the next round.

It would have been great if someone came up with an alternative. I am sure EFL would listen.

For the record (and mentioned everywhere), Champions League and Europa League are not played in the same week. If Liverpool play Champions League one Wednesday and Manchester United play Europa League the next Wednesday - when should they play if they were drawn to play each other?

If anything, moving two league matches on short notice so the teams could let their reserves play each other in the EFL cup, would be alienating fans further.

Hang on, we had to play Spurs in a league cup game 2 days after a league match. The likes of the rs, city, utd have enough depth to nearly name 2 teams so see if they like playing Saturday, Monday, Wednesday, Sunday.

Your off your head if you think the format we've just seen isn't a complete embarrassment and is swayed so heavily in the usual clubs favour, that they might as well just go straight to the QF and be done with the rest of us.

The big teams always used to mess about with the carabao cup / league cup / Mickey Mouse cup or whatever you want to call it and make drastic changes

Remember arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd would literally field youth teams all the way to the semi’s in these competitions where you began starting taking notice of their youth players like Jeremy aliadiere, Florent sinama pongolle and macheda et al

Then guardiola came along and wanted to win everything and just fielded his best side in every cup game

This messed up competition has even less status than the Charity Shield.

Love peoples confidence in Southampton being a decent draw when we have literally lost every single game against a PL team scoring zero and conceding 7.

Any PL team is a terrible draw for us currently.
