And playing under a top manager shows that you know what is expected of you at the very top clubs - so if you're a young pro wanting a shot at the Real or Barca type clubs, then Everton offers a great stepping stone in your career. And the more of that type of player you have, the closer you get to being that type of club over time and you are the destination club - e.g. like PSG and City have become recently.

but i imagine he has a top tier coaching staff, who have obviously worked with the very best

Dont worry fella i am with you. He's a huge name and for that reason alone his draw for signings could be great. But that horrible little Everton demon in my head is nagging away at me. He's managed clubs that as soon as he walks in the door he is managing top quality and already challenging for honours. This will be something different. So here comes the little bastad demon in my head saying is this a big pay day for him. I hope there is still hunger in him.

This is what I think too. He might be a bit of the old-fashoned manager type, rather than a modern coach. But he's going to have a coaching team capabale of doing the coaching side.
