Carlo Ancelotti

If Ancelotti is the guy I can get behind it easily and with Moyes that would be much much harder. But ultimately we need someone who is going to rebuild this from the ground up in the way that Simeone did or Pochettino did. I really don't know who that guy is. Gallardo at River is the best I see but he doesn't seem so interested right now.

Ancelotti could easily be our version of Pellegrini and no one wants that.

Mate whoever we get has to do that. A few seasons of getting back up, there attracting good players, raising our profile, and then handing us over to someone else good would be amazing

Got to say, I do have some sympathy with those who have some reservations about this.

I’m not against his appointment in any way, and I think it’s true that in the position we’re in, we’d be mad to turn down someone with his experience and standing.

But can’t help thinking a few years back I would’ve been much more excited with his appointment than I am now. I don’t really know why this is though.

With how Dunc’s appointment has gone, I think it shows that what we need right now is a great motivator/man-manager, rather than a master tactician.

Does anybody know if Ancelotti is well regarded in this kind of way? Has he shown an ability to install desire and passion in any of his jobs?

I understand the concerns because of his age, but Carlo is in a totally different league of manager than Pellegrini: he's arguably in the top echelons of the game.

Equally, I understand the principle of having a manager who is part of a long-term project, building the club over the time, however I also see his long-term merits.

As a club, we have been stagnant for far too long and have only came relatively close to any actual success (one final, a few semis etc.) rather than taste it.

If he is able to bring us a trophy, it could be a catalyst for attracting new talent, raise our profile and revitalise the fan base, which in turn will attract a new manager.

We need something to get us going again, and I feel that Carlo could be the man to do that.

Right so what had Ancelotti done in the last 2 decades to suggest he will be the one to do it? Taking over mega clubs with the most talented squads does not suggest he is going to be able to succeed when he takes over a team with something like the 8th most talent. I mean Napoli is probably player for player like 3rd in Italy and he struggled. It just feels like the wrong fit.

First off, it would be a huge coup for the club. He is a big name and his record speaks for itself.

I've got huge reservations about whether this is the right job for him or us. I'd say his best asset is managing big name players in teams that have got outstanding quality. That is definitely not the case here. He is almost building from scratch in terms of growing a side that would be capable of getting Champions League. Is he capable of that? No one knows. I just hope he doesn't look at this like it's one last pay cheque before his time is up.

His Napoli team wasn't full of big names.
