You guys actually looked at the league table at all?
5 points behind 6th
6 points behind 5th
7 points behind 4th

if Chelsea lose tomorrow we would of made 8 points on them in 5 games

That is still a big gap. We have to sustain this form through to the end of the season to overcome that, as other teams will have purple patches.

To finish 6th will probably take about 63-65 points.

We would need to win say 12/13 of 18 matches and draw a couple. It is possible but unlikely.

We've got the best points total after Liverpool over the last 5 league games (3 wins, 2 draws - the only team other than the RS to be unbeaten in those 5). I'm not joining those who say below 6th would be a disappointment - it's just refreshing to be looking up the table instead of down, but there's a lot of teams around similar points or just below us. I think a realistic assessment would be 6th - fantastic achievement, top 8 very good, top half satisfactory (in terms of where we were a month ago). Let's be real, the talk was more on avoiding relegation not so very long ago. Looks like we're playing without the fear that was apparent before, without heads dropping at missed chances or a goal conceded. We look to have a stronger mentality and drive to make chances and keep going when previous attempts haven't paid off. That's surely great management from both DF boosting the players' spirit and from Carlo. Are his recent comments about DCL having potential to become a top European striker a genuine assessment or a clever way of instilling a greater level of desire and personal belief from him in order to squeeze a higher level of performance out of him? I don't know but either way it's great management.

He's still got a job on here clearing out the tat that not only Koeman brought in but Brands has added to.

One thing I think we can guarantee is that in no way shape or form will Ancelotti stand for any player coming into Everton that he doesn't suggest we get first. THAT will at least stop the rot in terms of the deterioration in quality - both ability wise and in terms of mentality.

I agree, but I think the only way he will do that is getting in no more than two players per window. By definition, that makes an overhaul longer but for us we simply have to focus on quality and not quantity. Combine that with a manager who knows what he is doing and its a recipe for success.

Last summer was the scattergun approach again and we were still bizarrely left short in the critical areas. Iwobi looks to have been a prime example of a panic signing, although still confident Ancelotti will get at least something more from him.

We cannot afford any more mistakes with transfers if we are to have any hope to progress and that makes it crucial that the man with the know-how and appeal is driving the process.

I dont think volume matters (within reason) if the man buying them has an ability to blend a team.

Ancelotti has a core of players here to work with: Coleman/Kenny/Sidibe (if bought); Digne; Holgate; Richarlison; (maybe) DCL (maybe Gomes). But that's it.

He needs this January to buy - or loan with a view to a buy - 2 players. Next summer he could easily integrate 4 more without disruption.

We shouldn't forget just how chronic the buying of Koeman and Brands has been.
