2019/20 Carlo Ancelotti

Thought Coleman looked good when he drove forward with purpose. The whole team was guilty of going back to Pickford too much. It’ll need time to get that coached out of them.

I think that's the team we were against. They had an energetic team trained to press hard and often, the first such team we have come up against under Ancelotti. Frankly, they were just far better than us and there's no two ways around it. I think Bernard would have made a slight difference, in that he can take players on and is very good at haranguing the opposition, but with Siggy and Davies hiding somewhere in the midfield, we had no outlets and no real way of regaining possession quickly

I don’t like to jump on the bandwagon when it comes to slating players, but Sigurdsson was very poor. Gave the ball away so cheaply. I don’t really see what he offers the team.

He's not bad against poorer teams that sit back, but we may as well play nobody than play him against opposition like City. He gets completely overrun and dispossessed against mobile, hardworking midfields

Surprised looking at the back 3 against City why he doesn't play Baines at left side and Holgate replacing Coleman.

Baines - Mina - Holgate

Baines is a far better footballer than Coleman and left sided so transitions the play faster because he is more natural on the left.
Baines is slow, poor in the air and lacks any sort of physicality. I can't think of a worse set of traits for a centre half to be honest. If anything you'd be better with Digne as the centre half and Baines wide left, but Coleman has been playing well in that role so i'm not sure why we'd do that.

My feelings about this squad are based on what I´ve seen from the last 18 months. We´ll see over the next 5 league games if they can maintain the new manager bounce. I remember Allardyce´s arrival seeming like the second coming to begin with when results took an upturn before leveling out.
Let down by the signings of Koeman and Brands there last night. No guts, no composure, and completely reactive players away from Goodison.

THAT'S why we can guarantee he wont be sitting back allowing Brands to make the running in any transfer deals upcoming. Ancelotti will be in total control of that. He can see what a huge and expensive balls up those two Dutchmen have made and he wont go down in flames because of them and their atrocious player-judgement he inherited.

Was it not Walsh, Koeman and Kenwright who made the signings up till Silva coming in???? Which is why we had 3 number 10's

They’ve been a bit flaky this season but City are the best team in Europe when they’re on their game. Going there with injuries to Bernard Gomes and Gbamin was never going to be easy.

Ancelotti needs his squad, and frankly there’s only so much he can do with players like Siggurdson Davies Keane Coleman etc. asking them to compete against the likes of De Bruyne away from home is a difficult task.

Ancellotti’s assessment is right. We could have done more with the ball but the players are too timid. Hopefully he’s drumming this into them for the FA cup game so there’s no repeat.
That was one of city's worst starting 11's.

No laporte, stones, Ederson, Bernardo Silva, David Silva, sane, sterling, walker, aguero.

Apart from de bruyne and Mendy it was essentially a b team.

Ancelotti knows he needs big game players, time for mosh to provide

Strange that, I thought Kean made a difference when he came in, not sure who bought him like thought the worst performance was Siggardson, not sure if Brands bought him I’ll excuse Davies, he was thrown in out of position.

We started in a 442, with a right back on the wing, a central mid on the other one, and a number 10 playing central midfield. Our only midfielder who was first choice in his best position was a player City judged to be worse than any of their current squad options.

Ancelotti doesn’t need a blank chequebook for ridiculous superstars to succeed. He just needs a few windows to get a few better quality players and for the return of the decent midfield players we do have such as Gomes Bernard and Gbamin.

Because, Everton.

I just expect United, Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea will all improve. They are all far better than they've been showing.

Equally, I expect we'll improve too, but not at the same rate as the aforementioned teams who, although they haven't got their stuff together right now - can call on world class players that we don't have.

If we win 5 from the next 5 against Brighton, Newcastle, West Ham, Watford and Palace, we'll be in a much stronger position and I might just start to believe.
SPURS have lost Kane for at least a month
United have lost Pogba and McTominay
Chelsea are inconsistency personified
Arsenal still have issues in defence.

I don't think he will have been surprised by yesterday, but maybe a little disappointed by the teams failure to get forward more.

Games like this will begin the process of crystallising in his mind that players that can be improved technically and tactically to make us more competitive against this sort of opposition, and those, perhaps the majority, that can't.

I always think the impact of even a single successful signing that "fits" particularly in the attacking positions, can have a huge impact on the whole team.

He needs to plot carefully and methodically, and I think he will. I think we'll see measured rather than drastic changes between now and the end of the season, and into the next.
I think he knows he is here for the long term
The fans will be patient and back him because after him its downhill
The board will back him financially and give him time because he is the best we can get and their focus will be on the stadium.
2 or 3 key signings in January could get us Europa ,and then we can attract a better class of player and slowly build.
Realistically we only have 4/5 players capable of getting a place in a genuine top 1/2/3 team in the league
Hopefully he leads us into a full house in the USM Dixie Dean Stadium at Bramley Moore Dock

A lot of everton fans do

I know we 'can' get 6th or 7th but I'm not having that 'a lot' of fans believe it's realistic for us to do so.

5 points isn't a chasm, of course, it's do-able but just because it's do-able doesn't mean it's realistic.

Those teams have far greater resources than us and that is usually a deciding factor once these races have been run.

SPURS have lost Kane for at least a month
United have lost Pogba and McTominay
Chelsea are inconsistency personified
Arsenal still have issues in defence.

And, even with all of those factors, with all 4 playing as terribly as they have, all of them are still above us.

Your premise appears to be that they will continue to struggle while our form will pick up and we'll find an unprecedented level of consistency.
