good interview with carragher

I genuinely love him.

The anti-Martinez of football managers.

“A team with a clear identity is a limited team. It means they can only play one way."

10000% spot on.

My worry with him was that he was, over the last, what 20 years, a finisher. A manager who worked with teams that were already of very high quality. That he was a manager who just massaged the egos in the dressing room. In no way did I think he was not world class, just that he might not have been the type of manager we needed at the time.

SOoooooo glad to be wrong on this one. It wasn't that I was worried he wasn't good enough, I worried he wouldn't be able to get the team to respond because, bar one or two, they are all worse than the worst player he's probably managed in decades. I was worried they would try to throw him under the bus because of absolutely crap they all are. Really exciting times for when he can get in a couple players he already knows we need(hell, we ALL know what we needed before he even came in).

“This part of England is different to London. It is more friendly. London is more cosmopolitan there are a lot of Italians in London. Usually I stay in the centre of the city but I feel good here, and I have already found a good Italian restaurant.”

Well, that's the Guardian podcast back in its box then.

You know sometimes when I'm down and it seems nothing good will ever happen I remind myself that Carlo Ancelotti manages Everton and Andre Gomes is back playing less than 4 months after his foot was hanging off. I'm not one of those "football is life" weirdos but it genuinely gives me hope.

Red card is an utter joke, just presented that fine to save face.

Why bother appealing it when it's a trivial sum for him/the club and it guarantees he can take charge of the Chelsea game?

Wish the club had appealed the decision tbh.

With a fairly average squad.

With a squad low in confidence.

With our best midfielder out.

Developed two younger players who are now knocking on the international door.

Developed one further to be a problem for longer and becoming a major superstar (in my eyes).

With no quality on the right.

With a keeper who is bang out of form.

Taking the game to teams rather than sitting back or hoping for a point away from home.

With a crowd who had grown tired of Everton.

BuT iT DoEsNt FiT tHe ClUb

BRiNg BaCk MoYeS

With average to poor right back options.
I think the people who wanted Moyes back only wanted it to happen so it gave them another thing to moan about. It completes their miserable existences.

Imagine being that restaurant owner.

I’ve said before, the difference between us and Leicester this season has been momentum.

Despite us finishing above them last season, you could see the direction they were heading with a decent manager, some great young players coming through and smart buys in the summer. They used the title win of a few years back smartly to gradually improve the club from the ground up.

It looks like we are building similar momentum now, despite our early season struggles. We have a good manager, some excellent young players starting to hit their stride, if we can buy smartly in the summer then we have the potential to really kick on this summer.

Fair enough, we have heard this before, but Carlo Ancelotti is the BIG difference here.

More interested in what Italian place he's on about.
