I don't understand personally why he has played Davies game after game as an example.....so if he carries him into next season as well then that will give us genuine cause for alarm.
Because we have literally had 3 Centre Mids the entire time he has been here, 1 of which has been Sigurdsson. Gbamin is a write off, Delph practically has been. When he arrived, Gomes was too. So we had Davies, the Ghost and Schneiderlin to pick from. Then Gomes came back, the season got put on hold, and Schneiderlin left, so still the same 3.
Davies has been below par, but the whole midfield unit has been, so I will reserve judgement. He is young enough and talented enough to improve. I think of it at the moment as having a car with 3 wheels. You can keep swapping which wheel is missing, and get varying results, but it's still not going to function properly.
The football has been pretty shocking if we are being honest.
He has taken over a really poorly balanced squad that lacks quality and character to boot. We had lost 9 from 15 before he arrived, twice at home to newly promoted teams, and lost to the other promoted team away. Between Carlo, and not forgetting the input of Ferguson, we have ended up disappointed by not getting into Europe as the season ended with a whimper, mostly down to the aforementioned weak squad.
My cousin said the other week, its mad how we can make 5 changes and still seemingly field the same team every week. It was pretty much spot on. They are all dead on their feet, and the 9 games in 4 weeks after a 3 month layoff hasn't helped.
so one of the greatest ever managers cant motivate or organise a team into a hard working cohesive unit? name me one thing you have seen that gives you hope for next season, you think he is going to go out and buy the European football equivalent of the Harlem globetrotters in the summer and turn us around?
The fact that he managed to get this side as high as he did. Organisation, tactics and the inspiration and belief he has brought in. We played Aston Villa last week, who survived relegation on the last day, and honestly, there is probably only Gordon from our current set of midfielders that I wouldn't gladly swap for any of there's.
Add to that the improvements in Holgate, Calvert Lewin, Richarlison, Digne & Keane, and the introduction of Branthwaite and Gordon, and I would say there is some hope, albeit with a massive Everton caveat attached. Another glimmer of hope is those that haven't performed have well and truly shown their true colours and will hopefully be told that they have no future. My guess is some already have, and that's 1 potential reason for the total apathy in performances.
Somehow, we have attracted a manager of his calibre to our club, and it is a project he wants to oversee, we shouldn't be in any sort of rush. Give the man a chance, give him time, back him, and believe he knows what he's doing, and hopefully, the players he keeps will do the same.
