I agree with your point and while I’ve still been made angry by Everton, I’ve seen signs of change but there is only so much that can happen.

Davies Iceland and Gomes are the only CM options. Davies is the onlyone who’s been constantly available. Gomes has been a shadow (understandable) and Iceland has been, well.....

We HAVE to see signs of life in midfield next season. The club has to back CA and then we can make a full, educated judgment this time next year.

No reason at all why we couldn't have tried Holgate in the middle again - he played there earlier in the season and we had plenty of CBs.

I worry - and I don't know if @caliblue agrees - that we have appointed Davide rather than Carlo, essentially. Results and performances hint at this.

you say no reason but Mina has had an injury or two. And Holgate brings the pace. Keane and Mina as a pairing is a nono for me. Particularly with Coleman as a full back.
I don’t think he’s had the opportunity to put him there as Holgate was promoted to leading CB under Ancelotti.

none of us know the true structure of staffing behind the scenes but I doubt that is what you suggest. No evidence to suggest it’s that other than speculation. But this is a forum and we live off speculation

I will always advocate playing your best players in their best positions.

We finished the season with 2 fit defenders and one of them we got lucky with looking the part at this level. if you dont accept the luck part of that, you have to give Brands the credit for signing him.

It is also a proven fact that Bayern Munchen and Napoli rapidly did worse the 18 months they had Ancelotti in charge. And they have improved massively since getting rid.

Ancelotti is a great manager. A great man. But he should not be beyond criticism.

Allardyce did better. With a worse squad.

I would have Davies dropped into the nearest household waste recycling centre.
It’s still early days for Brantheaite. The young man has done very well to begin but he was pushed in because we were very short and to promote him to play CB when Holgate is an ask and a half. We will never know.

I just hope the board / club back CA this summer and get the quality in that we need.

for all we know they want Gabriel in so Holgate can move up the field and be a protector.
