2019/20 Carlo Ancelotti

Can you give me examples of teams that have success in 2020 with a two man midfield?

Mate I ask you a name who can do better than Carlo with this squad you did not answer.

If you think not playing 4-4-2 everything will be fine then good on you.

I hope @caliblue sticks at this. Talking a lot of sense and it feels a bit like the early days of second season Martinez when only very few of us could see the incoming disaster.

No one should escape the scrutiny. Not least the players of course, but also Brands and Ancelotti, neither of whom have covered themselves in glory.
Isn't this the kind of post you call "edgy"?

I'm just not following how we are headed into a Martinez second season?

60 points get you 6th. I project that if Carlo gets a full season with 38 games. You must get a U from Gcse maths orly. You deserve Roberto.
The one who calls others a fool, without even know him is the biggest fool. Just look yourself in the mirror.

You’re having a go at Carlo after 20 games. Well done orly. What’s the solution?

Whoops again...

What would you like to see Ancelotti do differently? And what is this coming disaster?
I am a MASSIVE CA fan and still think that it's the best thing to happen to Everton in years.

But it is obvious that this group of players are not suited to 4-4-2 and whilst I totally understand Carlo's philosophy I am puzzled at his reluctance to play 4-3-3 , which to my untrained football eye seems to fit this squad far better.

It is a massive summer but if Carlo doesn't get the players in that he needs to play 4-4-2 but still retains Davies and / Gomes or Sigurdsson in a 2 man centre midfield even I will start to have my doubts , and I think that he is in the top 5 managers of all time.

Stop with the whole 442. We’ve played 433, 4231, 442, 352 and 532 under CA. He is adaptable.

let’s Just assess how we look this time next year. As long as we improve.
Remember it’s not just CA cleaning the mess. The club, Brands are still working to fix the mistakes made by Koeman and Walsh.

we have played 3 in themiddle the pasttwo games.
Problem has been we have only had 2 midfielders fit for league chunks remember.

I've been @'d by a couple of people, so I'll just say again - 30 points from 20 games and a final finishing position of 12th isn't good enough. No one was forcing Ancelotti to give Gylfi the armband. Or play Iwobi and Davies. There were alternatives. And yes I do think 20 games is long enough to show some signs of life.

No one is saying "sack sack sack". What a lot of well-reasoned posters are saying is "we should not put Ancelotti up on a pedestal if he does not perform". At the moment, it looks like he is coasting.

Ranieri discovered a system and they made the most of it with the players he had. I can guarantee at the start of that season people in here, like every year had us finishing ahead of Leicester.
Ranieri found poor players, nurtured and developed them. He gave them roles where they could play to their strengths. Within a few months they were top top players.

That is very different from telling a left midfielder/10 to go on the right side and make sure to stay within an arm's length to your full back. Or to ask last season's top scorer be a shield in front of the defence.

Square pegs. Round holes.

how do you bench Davies when we’ve at staged only had Davies and 1 other midfielder available?

I agree with your point and while I’ve still been made angry by Everton, I’ve seen signs of change but there is only so much that can happen.

Davies Iceland and Gomes are the only CM options. Davies is the onlyone who’s been constantly available. Gomes has been a shadow (understandable) and Iceland has been, well.....

We HAVE to see signs of life in midfield next season. The club has to back CA and then we can make a full, educated judgment this time next year.
