We havent lost a game in 90minutes since we sacked Silva.

The players arent the problem.

Not saying we have a perfect title winning squad, but its vastly better than the 17th Silva had them in.

Yeah, this. Silva was tactically inflexible and inept.

This season, as far as I could see the tactics were 4-2-3-1, long throw ins, and lash on 2 extra strikers once we go a goal down.

Only leeway I give Silva is that he was unlucky to lose his 2 first choice CMs to injury. Fact that he didn’t adapt to it is down to him.

I was impressed with how he set us up on Thursday, Burnley teams in the last couple of years have caused us more problems offensively and the players seemed to take on board his instructions. I think we set up defensively better than Silva but the common thread was our inability to find the net. A more clinical team would have won by 2 or 3 goals. i was pretty happy with the performance generally

That's easy to do, they spend 78 million on Bentekke and Andy Carroll, that's more than we spent on Coleman, Bernard, Gomes, Digne and Richarlson. It's easy to pick out an expensive bust and compare it to cheap deals that worked out.
Sadly klopp didn’t buy those players and it was some years ago. The point I think he was making that you don’t need to throw massive money to develop a team as we have found out to our cost.

You could have said the same when Fat Sam took over. The new manager bounce will take us nicely into mid table but the frustrations over the course of the season will still be there. Away games against teams we are better than will be the biggest test, today being the start of that.

Newcastle have a very decent home record.

Only Liverpool currently beat everybody away.

They spent well recently on some of the low to medium transfer deals, but they’ve only become a force since breaking transfer records on VVD and Allison. £145m on those 2.

We´ve only got 5 points from 9 away games though and that needs to be improved drastically. In a lot of those games the overall play has been okay, just individual errors costing us and an inability to create chances with all the possession we´ve had. Ancelotti has got a tough task to address this with the current squad.

Our away record has been bad for 30 years.

But you do, they paid huge money for Allison and VVD world record fees for a Keeper and Defender you need the big signings along with some bargains that pay off. We've had bargains that worked out well Gana, Coleman the 2 standouts, the sums we are paying for our top players are nowhere near what they have paid.

I agree, players can change a lot depending on manager. Look at Leicester, mostly the same squad as Claude Puel had with a 33% win rate, Rodgers goes in and nearly doubles that win rate (63%). He just knows how to get more out of their players.
It wasn't long ago we were wondering if/how DLC, Richy and Kean could be used together and what manager could do it. Carlo comes in and within 70 minutes has them in a front 3 and we score a goal soon after.

I've been saying that for a while, we definitely have a top 6 squad but we had a league 1 manager, and as bad as we have been we still have a chance of a top 6 finish a good run of results will see us charge up the table, there's a chance we go top 10 with a win today, hell we are only 8 points behind 5th.

10 points off 4th made up 5 points in 3 games. If we can win today we are really in the mix for top 6
